Some interesting news is being reported that James Wan’s The Conjuring is getting a spinoff titled Annabell, and it will be about exactly that—the Annabelle doll that had one hell of a terrifying presence in the film. One thing I often hear when fans talk about Wan’s haunter is how damn creepy that doll was. And she’s hardly in the film at all! This tells me that Warner Bros. is really onto something here. According to Schmoes Know, The Conjuring’s Director of Photography John R. Leonetti will take the helm, and sources say the movie will begin filming in Spring of 2014.
And for those of you who are curious about the movement on the sequel to The Conjuring, the site says that the Hayes brothers (writers of the original) are hard at work on the second chapter. So we’ve got a spinoff and a sequel headed our way; it’s amazing what a successful money-making film like The Conjuring can do as far as getting similar projects off the ground. Warner Bros. apparently is hoping to get James Wan back behind the camera of the sequel, but I wouldn’t get too excited about that one, folks. Wan has already stated that he’s done with horror for the time being, and he’s plenty busy with other projects like Fast and Furious 7. That’s all for now, what say you? Yea, let’s hope so. She’s creepy in the few moments we see her on screen. But for an entire film? Who knows.

Ugh. I hate dolls. Someone told me The Conjuring had a creepy doll in it and since then, I’ve been debating whether or not to actually watch it. Dolls/dummies and spiders are pretty much the only things that really creep me out. Least I got a long time to decide whether to watch the spin off though.
You should definitely check it out, the doll is creepy but you rarely see her in the film.
Honestly, she scared me most when they showed evidence of what she did offscreen – such as when “Miss me?” was shown to be written on a piece of paper, then the roommates saw it written more and more all over the place …including on the ceiling. I’m not one of those people who is especially creeped out by dolls themselves (and my mom –Rest in peace mom, no offense–made some pretty horrifying ones when she was fiest learning how to sculpt wax ones that looked like week-old babies. After she died they went into storage in our basement with the rest of her belongings and I thought about getting it out for Halloween, but chickened out). Annabelle is creepy to look at, but it was things like her re-appearing after they threw her away that got to me. Also, in the scene with the Warren’s daughter where Bathsheba was sitting facing away from the camera holding the doll, I was actively frightened (along with everyone else in the theater, including grown men scooting down in their seats and wincing). I think Annabelle was scarier when used sparingly in the film in small (but terrifying) doses, but who knows? The right creative team could make a pretty scary spin-off.
Yea, that’s exactly how I feel. She was such a strong presence in the film simply because we rarely saw her. Will she be able to carry an entire film? Who knows. I hope so though.
Oh my the real Annabelle! She’s nothing like the movie Annabelle, and is possibly way scarier. Though I don’t think she, the actual, would work onscreen.
I know, right! I think she’s much creepier as well, probably because she wasn’t made to look creepy like the film version. You’re right though, definitely wouldn’t work in a feature film.
I don’t know if anybody, even James Wan himself would be able to pull it off. It seems like the very brief appearance of Annabelle in conjuring is enough, coz I read the story of the real Annabelle doll and conjuring pretty much covered all the spooky bits. I am thrilled with the idea, but I doubt that it will be well executed, probably need a lot of made up stories so that it wouldn’t end up being like another typical creepy doll/puppet movie like chucky or billy, from dead silence. Hmm… I don’t know, surprise me. I’ll still watch it, if it became a movie.
