While original Sinister director Scott Derrickson and his co-writer C. Robert Cargill have been hard at work on a script for a sequel to the massively successful 2012 film, it was unsure as to whether or not Derrickson himself would take ahold of the directing duties. That all changed today, however, as Blumhouse took to twitter to announced that Citadel director Ciaran Foy will be the man behind the sequel. While I’m sure that many fans were hoping to see Derrickson back behind the camera for Sinister 2, take solace in knowing that he still very much has a heavy hand in the sequel with writing duties. Archives For Sequel
Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil is one of the most entertaining, blood-fueled horror comedies to grace the genre in quite a few years, and now signs are pointing towards a potential sequel is in the works. This past week was the popular HorrorHound convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the two stars of the film Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine both dropped a bomb on the audience that the producers of the original film are hoping to move forward with a sequel at some point this very year. That’s exciting stuff, people!
I’ve got some quick release date news to pass along to you guys as Warner Bros. has just slated the sequel to James Wan’s massive hit The Conjuring for an October 23, 2015 release, setting it up just in time to haunt theaters right before Halloween! At first glance it’s kind of surprising to see that they aren’t going to give it a July release where the original film pulled in over $300 million worldwide. But as you guys know, the summer movie season is filled with one blockbuster after another, and 2015′s summer schedule is looking quite crowded with films like Avengers, Terminator, Mad Max, Jurassic World, Ant Man and Ted 2—just to name a few—all hitting theaters that summer. Some interesting news is being reported that James Wan’s The Conjuring is getting a spinoff titled Annabell, and it will be about exactly that—the Annabelle doll that had one hell of a terrifying presence in the film. One thing I often hear when fans talk about Wan’s haunter is how damn creepy that doll was. And she’s hardly in the film at all! This tells me that Warner Bros. is really onto something here. According to Schmoes Know, The Conjuring’s Director of Photography John R. Leonetti will take the helm, and sources say the movie will begin filming in Spring of 2014. Continue Reading…

Official cover art for Stephen King’s highly anticipated sequel to ‘The Shining’, ‘Dr. Sleep’
We got to take a fantastic look at the special edition prints for Stephen King’s highly anticipated upcoming novel Dr. Sleep a few weeks ago and they were all pretty wicked. Now, King has revealed the official cover art for the novel and it’s easily my favorite of the bunch. I love the smokey text surrounding the mysterious face in the background. Continue Reading…

Stephen King’s Sequel to ‘The Shining’, ‘Doctor Sleep’ Gets Special Edition Cover Art
I’ve covered Stephen King’s upcoming sequel to his masterpiece The Shining for quite some time now so I’m really excited to be sharing the cover art for the special edition printings of Doctor Sleep with you guys. The sequel will follow a now 40 year old Danny Torrance and a tribe of psychic vampires. Yea that’s right, vampires! While we still have no idea what the standard edition cover art will look like, something tells me it wont be nearly as badass as what Cemetery Dance is offering with their limited & signed editions. First Official Look and Plot for ‘The Last Exorcism 2′
After a $70 million worldwide gross, it’s safe to say that the low-budget horror flick The Last Exorcism was quite the success. Naturally, Eli Roth and Strike Entertainment will bring us an “even more terrifying and bigger scale sequel”. I found the first film to be a great addition to all of the other possession flicks out there. And while documentary style of filming is beginning to ware itself out, The Last Exorcism proved that at times it can have its advantages. The low-budget approach to the first film is what made it so enjoyable in a B-movie kind of way, so a “bigger scale sequel” has me worried. Continue Reading…

Matt Reeves To Helm ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’
Just last week it was announced that Rupert Wyatt — director of the successful Rise of The Planet of The Apes — dropped out of the sequel, ultimately leading to an impressive short list of directors that were next in line. Once Matt Reeves dropped out of WB’s adaptation of The Twilight Zone he quickly landed a spot on the top of that list.
The Cloverfield and Let Me In director has reportedly just been given the reins to direct 20th Century Fox’s sequel Dawn of The Planet of The Apes which is still being planned for a May 23, 2014 release.
Reeves is a great choice and I had a feeling that once he dropped out of The Twilight Zone he was doing it for something bigger and when his named was put on the short list of directors for the Apes sequel it all started making sense. While I would much rather see Reeves behind the camera of a new Twilight Zone film I’m pretty happy with Fox’s choice. With him being and accomplished horror director I hope to see his style make its way into the film because the subject matter certainly has some horror elements to it that could be explored.
This will no doubt mark biggest and most expense film Reeves has ever worked on and as a director who can create some fantastic features with a limited budget I’m excited to see what a man with this kind of talent can do when the sky is the limit.
