The Shining 034

A prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining was first announced to be moving forward last April, and now we might have a face to attach to it as reports are coming in that Warner Bros. is looking to get Children of Men and Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron to take the helm of The Overlook Hotel. After his latest film, Gravity, grossed $716 million worldwide for the studio, it’s not at all surprising that they’d look to him to bring this project to life. But then again, I’m sure Cuaron is getting showered in projects right now as he’s even being considered to direct the Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Continue Reading…

We all know that Stephen King has never been a big fan of Stanley Kubrick’s classic horror film adaptation of The Shiningit’s something he’s been vocal about for years now. But with his upcoming sequel Doctor Sleep gearing up to hit shelves this Tuesday, September 24th, King dished out a little more on exactly why he’s never been much of a fan of Kubrick’s version. Here’s what he had to say: Continue Reading…

Thank the horror gods for this insanely awesome parody by UK artist Kyle Lambert who recast Stanley Kubrick’s classic The Shining with Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story characters — it’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. Apparently, once Lambert discovered through Twitter that Toy Story 3 helmer Lee Unkrich was a huge fan of The Shining, he got this brilliant idea to mash the two together, creating this amazing gallery which you fine readers can check out below! If you wan’t to see more, check out his site! Continue Reading…

What does Stephen King think of the upcoming prequel to The Shining?

Ryan —  April 12, 2013 — 14 Comments

Just yesterday we got hit with the surprising news that a prequel to The Shining called The Overlook Hotel was on its way and would be penned by Glen Mazzara. While there are plenty of possible paths that the prequel could go down it’s still something that a lot of fans are nervous about and rightfully so. Right now it’s a huge mystery as to what Mazzara plans on doing with the project, but what we do know is that Stephen King isn’t exactly looking forward to it.

It was really only a matter of time before Stephen King himself weighed in on the news and thanks to EW, we’ve got his reaction right here:

I’m not saying I would put a stop to the project, because I’m sort of a nice guy. When I was a kid, my mother said, ‘Stephen if you were a girl, you’d always be pregnant.’ I have a tendency to let people develop things. I’m always curious to see what will happen. But you know what? I would be just as happy if it didn’t happen.

With Stephen King’s sequel to The ShiningDoctor Sleep, arriving in the fall, it has to be weird for him seeing that a prequel is on its way too — especially one he had nothing to do with. I totally agree with Mr. King here though because while I’m curious where this will all end up, I don’t think it would be hurting anyone if it just dissapeared.

The Shining prequel, The Overlook Hotel, moves forward

Ryan —  April 11, 2013 — 8 Comments

A prequel to The Shining looks to be on the way regardless of whether we want one or not. The Shining has been a pretty hot topic as of late with Stephen King’s sequel, Doctor Sleep, in the works as well as the hit documentary Room 237 making the rounds. There is no denying that there’s plenty of room to explore with a prequel — what’s the deal with the twins? Or what about Lloyd the bartender? What are their stories? Who knows which direction they’ll take The Overlook Hotel but there are certainly plenty of interesting paths. I’m notoriously optimistic with remakes, sequels, and prequels — so before jumping off the cliff with everyone else, I’m actually going to give this one a chance.

It has been announced that former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara is in talks to write The Overlook Hotela prequel to the Stanley Kubrick-directed adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining. The film will be developed over at Warner Bros and will be produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt, and Laeta Kalogridis.

We got to take a fantastic look at the special edition prints for Stephen King’s highly anticipated upcoming novel Dr. Sleep a few weeks ago and they were all pretty wicked. Now, King has revealed the official cover art for the novel and it’s easily my favorite of the bunch. I love the smokey text surrounding the mysterious face in the background. Continue Reading…

Ryan —  February 4, 2013 — 15 Comments

I’ve covered Stephen King’s upcoming sequel to his masterpiece The Shining for quite some time now so I’m really excited to be sharing the cover art for the special edition printings of Doctor Sleep with you guys. The sequel will follow a now 40 year old Danny Torrance and a tribe of psychic vampires. Yea that’s right, vampires! While we still have no idea what the standard edition cover art will look like, something tells me it wont be nearly as badass as what Cemetery Dance is offering with their limited & signed editions. Insanely Cool Rejected Posters For ‘The Shining’

Ryan —  December 14, 2012 — 10 Comments

Some of you readers will remember the post I put up a few weeks ago about LACMA’s amazing exhibit that is completely dedicated to legendary director Stanley Kubrick. Within the exhibit is a display featuring some rejected posters for Kubrick’s classic film The Shining and they are absolutely stunning. The entire gallery is phenomenal but this has to be one of the coolest displays at the show. Not only does it show off some lost poster ideas for one of cinemas greatest horror films but each of them have what looks to be Kubrick’s handwritten notes as to the reasoning why they chose not to use any of these prints.
