Just last week it was announced that Rupert Wyatt — director of the successful Rise of The Planet of The Apes — dropped out of the sequel, ultimately leading to an impressive short list of directors that were next in line. Once Matt Reeves dropped out of WB’s adaptation of The Twilight Zone he quickly landed a spot on the top of that list.
The Cloverfield and Let Me In director has reportedly just been given the reins to direct 20th Century Fox’s sequel Dawn of The Planet of The Apes which is still being planned for a May 23, 2014 release.
Reeves is a great choice and I had a feeling that once he dropped out of The Twilight Zone he was doing it for something bigger and when his named was put on the short list of directors for the Apes sequel it all started making sense. While I would much rather see Reeves behind the camera of a new Twilight Zone film I’m pretty happy with Fox’s choice. With him being and accomplished horror director I hope to see his style make its way into the film because the subject matter certainly has some horror elements to it that could be explored.
This will no doubt mark biggest and most expense film Reeves has ever worked on and as a director who can create some fantastic features with a limited budget I’m excited to see what a man with this kind of talent can do when the sky is the limit.
