Archives For Sam Raimi

For a while there we could barely make it through a week without hearing some sort of news regarding Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead 2. Since then, however, Alvarez has attached himself to a couple of new projects—one of them being Dante’s Inferno for Universal—and has kept pretty quiet about any movement on the sequel. So what’s the deal with the sequel and why is it taking so long to get off the ground? Here’s something you just don’t see everyday. A Japanese movie poster for Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness depicts the film’s hero inside a supermarket of sorts? Honestly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the marketing strategy of this poster because there’s all sorts of insane shit going on here. If the paper bag filled with bread, a chainsaw and Ash’s boomstick isn’t weird enough, how about the random dolphin in the background jumping through a coat hanger? poltergeist-sz-02

Twentieth Century Fox has dated the upcoming Poltergeist remake/sequel for a February 13, 2015 theatrical release, giving horror fans plenty of time to let it all sink in. Details on the film itself are still pretty slim but from what we’ve seen throughout last year was that this one is most likely going to serve more as a sequel/standalone film, much like the approach that  Fede Alvarez took with the Evil Dead remake. Basically what that means is that we’ll be seeing new characters find themselves in a similar situation. That, to me, is probably the best way they could have gone about bringing Poltergeist back to the big screen because the original film is untouchable and in my opinion one of the most perfectly crafted horror films ever made. Jane Levy

Yesterday we were hit with the surprising news that Fede Alvarez was no longer attached to Evil Dead 2, but apparently the statement made by co-writer Rodo Sayagues got lost in translation. Bloody Disgusting reached out to Alvarez  who confirms that, “stuff got lost in translation” with Sayagues in the Gorosito interview published earlier today. He elaborated, “Rodo meant we’re not actually making ‘Evil Dead 2′ right now because the priority is Sam’s ‘Army of Darkness 2.’ But the plan of making a sequel to our ‘Evil Dead’ is very much alive.” Continue Reading…

Evil Dead 2 took a huge blow today as it was announced that both director Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues have dropped out of the project. This comes in just a few days after we learned that Sam Raimi would be helming Army of Darkness 2. With Alvarez out of the project, things aren’t looking so great for the sequel. Here’s what Sayagues told Gorosito.tv: Continue Reading…

Last week Bruce Campbell spilled some fantastic news, saying that an Army of Darkness 2 was on its way. I decided to hold off on reporting that news because we’ve all heard Campbell say similar things with nothing materializing. Well, folks, it’s time to start talking Army of Darkness 2 because the mastermind behind it all, Sam Raimi, has just been confirmed by none other than Evil Dead‘s Fede Alvarez! Continue Reading…

I’ve got more casting news on MGM’s upcoming Poltergeist to throw your way as 6 year old actress Kennedi Clements has now been added to the film. She will play Madison, the little girl who meets up with nasty ghosts in her TV. Casting the right kid for an iconic role like this is no easy task because it’s really important that her character is believable. Fortunately her acting skills shouldn’t be much of a worry because if it’s anything like the original, once she gets taken by the ghosts we’ll only hear her distant screams for help. You may have written this one off when it was first announced but now that Sam Rockwell’s name is getting tossed around you may want to rethink your decision. Apparently Rockwell is in early talks to star alongside Rosemarie DeWitt in the upcoming Poltergeist reboot. Right now Rockwell probably has a ton of movie offers on his plate, and while he’s intrigued with the role, he hasn’t officially taken the part just yet. That’s all the info we’ve got on this one but apparently the filmmakers are considering Rockwell a top priority. Make it happen! Continue Reading…

Evil-Dead

Here’s one you guys are really going to dig. I don’t know about you, but I love the horror trailers from the glory days of the genre. The whiny audio and the terrifying narrator coupled with the film’s grimy quality always made for a classic trailer that suits the horror genre in a way that you just don’t see these days.

Thanks to YouTuber P. Parker, he takes us on a trip down memory lane with this insanely cool re-imagining of Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead trailer. Essentially what Parker did was take the audio from Sam Raimi’s 1981 classic and put it to Evil Dead creating an old school vibe as if the film came out on VHS. It’s so well done that if you didn’t know any better you’d think this was a trailer for a horror film that has been sitting on a shelf for the last 30 years. Even the editing is top notch with its quick cuts and gritty quality. I can’t wait to see what he does next! Check it out below. Continue Reading…
