Archives For Frankenstein

Frankenstein3

I knew it was only a matter of time before we saw Twentieth Century Fox’s retelling of Mary Shelley’s novella undergo a title change. Before it was simply known as Frankenstein, but now we can start calling it Victor Frankenstein. While it might not sound like much, the new title actually helps this movie out tremendously. Mainly, it will no longer be confused with yet another remake because the film isn’t so much about Victor Frankenstein and his monster as it is about Igor, his assistant. Continue Reading…

Here’s a remake that has managed to stay out of the spotlight lately thanks to all the other remakes on the horizon. Now that cameras are finally rolling, however, we finally get our very first look at Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming new take on the classic Marry Shelley tale of Frankenstein. The first photo reveals Daniel Radcliffe’s Igor, who will star alongside Jessica Brown Findlay and James McAvoy. There’s really not a whole lot here to chew on, but I do like the look of his character and it’s nice to know that this remake isn’t going the “modern” route we’ve been seeing lately. At this point I hardly need to give brilliant artist Jason Edmiston much of an introduction as I’ve featured his work right here on Rhino’s Horror numerous times. Today, Mondo announced one hell of a Halloween treat as they will be releasing his Universal Monsters art tomorrow, Wednesday, October 16th! Some of you guys may actually remember these prints when they went up in Mondo’s Universal Monsters gallery a while back, but now you can actually own one of them! How cool is that!? Not too long ago we learned that 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Frankenstein was looking to possibly cast either Jack Huston or Toby Kebbel for the role of Victor Von Frankenstein. Either of those would have been great choices for the title character, but Fox decided to go with another great actor in James McAvoy. That’s right, McAvoy will star alongside Daniel Radliffe’s Igor in the Paul McGuigan Frankenstein adaptation!

McGuigan was brought on last year to the direct the film from a script by Max Landis that aims to put the focus on Frankenstein’s Assistant. The only real details we know about the flick is that it will bring a sci-fi twist to the classic story instead of following the novel. I’m pretty excited about this new. McAvoy is a fantastic actor who will no doubt bring something special to the iconic character. With Radcliffe’s Igor starring alongside McAvoy, this could potentially be one hell of an adaptation. Upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein starts piecing together its cast

Ryan —  June 24, 2013 — 9 Comments

Last we heard from 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Frankenstein was that Daniel Radcliffe was set to star as Igor, the hunchback assistant to Victor Frankenstein. Now, according to Deadline Fox is having both Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston (above) and RocknRolla’s Toby Kebbel (below) read for the part of Victor Frankenstein. While the list of possible candidates could expand, early word is that Fox is expecting to have a decision by next week. I’m a fan of both actors and while neither of these guys are a lock just yet, it’s likely that the role is going to one of them. I really dig Huston’s work on Boardwalk Empire so I wouldn’t mind seeing what he could bring to such a classic role like this one if he got the part. Continue Reading…

Variety is reporting that Daniel Radcliffe is in final negotiations to star in Fox’s new vision of Frankenstein as Igor. Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) has taken over the director’s chair and the film is based on a script written by Max Landis (Chronicle) that will focus heavily on Frankenstein’s assistant. I love the idea of Radcliffe jumping into new genres as it looks like he’ll be trading in his Horns for a hunched back. Continue Reading…

One of my most anticipated horror flicks of the new year goes to Richard Raaphorst’s Frankenstein’s Army which is set for its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival on January 26th. To celebrate the premiere, Dark Sky has unleashed a couple of badass new stills from the film. Continue Reading…

A Closer Look at Mondo’s Universal Monsters

Ryan —  December 4, 2012 — 4 Comments

We all remember the jaw dropping Universal Monster prints that mondo came up with back in October so I’ve decided to put together a gallery that takes a much closer look at these phenomenal posters that truly show off the intricate design work that went into all of these. One of the down sides to seeing these posters online and not in person is that you cannot fully appreciate the amount of work and detail that goes into every one of these beautiful works of art. Will Daniel Radcliffe Play The Hunchback in Fox’s ‘Frankenstein’ Adaptation?

Ryan —  September 27, 2012 — Leave a comment

Just a few weeks ago I reported that Lucky Number Slevin director Paul McGuigan had replaced Shawn Levy in Fox’s upcoming adaptation of Mary Shelly’s classic novel, Frankenstein. With a new director in place and a budget that Fox is comfortable with things seem to be moving along quite nicely for the classic monster tale.

Now, it looks like Harry Potter and The Woman in Black star Daniel Radcliffe is interested in playing the leading role of Hunchback in McGuigan’s newest take on Frankenstein.

Once the script is finished — which is currently finalizing — the studio will begin serious talks with potential actors. Penned by Chronicle scribe Max Landis, this version plans to put a sci-fi spin on the tale about a creature produced through a scientific experiment. The character of Hunchback is also being described as pathologically dirty and dressed in old clowns clothing.

This would be a very cool role for Radcliffe but as of right now it’s all speculation. More on Frankenstein as it becomes available.
