The Lords of Salem is far from anything we’ve seen from Rob Zombie thus far as it swallows you in its creepy atmosphere and chilling visuals while letting the slow and eerie pacing of the film sink into your bones. The film centers around A radio DJ, Heidi, who one night is sent a mysterious box containing a record; a “gift from the Lords.” The sounds within the grooves trigger flashbacks of her town’s violent past. Sightseers marks Ben Wheatley’s follow up to the brutally disturbing Kill List that helped establish Wheatley as one of horror’s most promising directors. Wheatley chose an interesting direction to go in after filming Kill List — instead of the seriousness and violent nature of that film he decided to blend his brutal style of filmmaking with some very dark comedic tones. Sightseers centers around Chris who wants to show his girlfriend Tina his world, but events soon conspire against the couple as their once dream caravan holiday takes a horrific and violent wrong turn. Director Fede Alvarez was met with a tall task when he took on the responsibility of helming Evil Dead as his directorial debut. Hand picked by Sam Raimi himself, Alvarez crafted a stylish tribute to a cult classic that I believe only he could have made. While Alvarez gave nods to the original film as well as adapting Sam Raimi’s fast pace camerawork, he still managed to put his own stamp on it as if to say, “I may be bad… but I feel gooood.” Continue Reading…
