Peter Strickland’s Berberian Sound Studio marks his second feature film and while he may not have many films under his belt just yet, his latest effort proves that he’s going to be a force in the industry in the very near future. In the 1970′s, a British sound technician is brought to Italy to work on the sound effects for a gruesome horror film. His nightmarish task slowly takes over his psyche, driving him to confront his own past. Continue Reading…

Watch The Full Trailer For ‘The Girl’

Ryan —  September 11, 2012 — 2 Comments

By now it’s no secret how excited I am for the premier of HBO’s The Girl starring Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as the wonderful Tippi Hedren. After two teasers that successfully did their job in amping the anticipation we now have a full length trailer for the BBC Two production of The Girl and it’s brilliant.

Written by Gwyneth Hughes, the film “follows the life and relationship of Alfred Hitchcock and his discovery of Tippi Hedren and the turmoil that surrounded them while making The Birds (1963), and how his ultimate failure ended up destroying both their careers.” The film looks fascinating as we get to see an unbelievable side to Sir Alfred Hitchcock and with Hedren giving full cooperation in interviews with Hughes we will not only be getting a never before seen look into their lives but a faithful telling of their story.

HBO premiers The Girl on Sunday, October 20th at 9PM. Don’t miss it. Check out the trailer below.

Teaser For HBO’s ‘The Girl’ With Toby Jones As Alfred Hitchcock

Ryan —  August 24, 2012 — Leave a comment

Well It’s finally here, a teaser trailer for the upcoming Alfred Hitchcock biopic starring Toby Jones and Sienna Miller. It’s only 30 seconds long but it manages to use every bit of those short seconds to their fullest. Jones sounds fantastic as Hitchcock and the old school style of editing works wonders for this teaser. I’ve been excited for this since its announcement and have never doubted Jones as Hitchcock. Now, with a teaser on our hands I can say with out a doubt that the wait was worth it.

In 1962 many people would say that Hitchcock was at the height of his career and creativity. He chose an unknown fashion model to play the main character in his most ambitious film, The Birds. Hitchcock was known for sculpting his actresses into the perfect blondes of his imagination but as he was doing this for Hedren he became obsessed with this impossible dream of winning her real love. Because of his failure to do so, it is said that it arguably destroyed both of their careers. This story about Hitchcock is absolutely fascinating and shows a rare glimpse into the life of one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.

The Girl will premier on HBO on October 20th, just in time for Halloween.

Toby Jones Descends Into A World of Sound And Madness In Berbarian Sound Studio Trailer

Ryan —  August 21, 2012 — 1 Comment

With a handful of images and posters released in anticipation for the Peter Strickland directed horror thriller which is set to premier at TIFF, it was only a matter of time before we got a trailer, and it looks fantastic. From the trailer alone you can see right away that Strickland is drawing inspiration directly from Italian cinema as we watch Toby Jones’ character descend into a hole in which it doesn’t look like he’s going to be able to climb out of. Rich with sounds of screams and and watermelons being sliced in half this trailer is music to the ears of horror fans.

Set in 1976: Gilderoy is hired to orchestrate the sound mix for the latest film by Italian horror maestro, Santini. As time and realities shift, Gilderoy is lost in a spiral of sonic and personal mayhem, and has to confront his own demons in order to stay afloat.

New Posters For ‘The Lords of Salem’ And ‘Berbarian Sound Studio’

With his newest horror feature set to premier next month at TIFF, Rob Zombie has revealed a second poster giving us a  great look at the leading lady Sheri Moon Zombie. Moon plays,”Heidi, a blond rock chick, who DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the “Big H Radio Team.”

I’m a huge fan of the posters so far for The Lords of Salem because they are so different from what you usually expect which is exactly Zombie’s style. Gotta love the tagline as well but at this point I think the thing we’ve all been waiting for is a trailer!

Just like The Lords of Salem, Berbarian Sound Studio is set to premier at TIFF next month adding to the already fantastic line-up. Some new posters just released setting the tone of the film perfectly with its wonderful throw back look to the old Italian horror films of the 70′s.

This genre bending horror pic is “Set in 1976: Gilderoy is hired to orchestrate the sound mix for the latest film by Italian horror maestro, Santini. As time and realities shift, Gilderoy is lost in a spiral of sonic and personal mayhem, and has to confront his own demons in order to stay afloat.

Toby Jones To Stay Afloat In ‘Berbarian Sound Studio’

Ryan —  August 7, 2012 — Leave a comment

A film that has quietly slipped under the radar of many horror fans is the upcoming UK film Berberian Sound Studio which will be helmed by Peter Strickland. I would assume that when this film gets picked up for a U.S. distribution (which I’m confident it will) they’ll change the name to something that’s a little bit more inspiring. It’s set against the backdrop of Italian horror in the late 1970′s which is during a time when some of the best films of the genre were made, making this the perfect setting. Berberian Sound Studio stars Toby Jones who’s becoming a house hold name in the horror genre with his fantastic role in The Mist and his turn as the Master of Suspense as Alfred Hitchcock in HBO’s The Girl.

Set in 1976: Gilderoy (Jones) is hired to orchestrate the sound mix for the latest film by Italian horror maestro, Santini. As time and realities shift, Gilderoy is lost in a spiral of sonic and personal mayhem, and has to confront his own demons in order to stay afloat.

Strickland is certainly heading in the right direction with this film because it doesn’t fit the mold of many of the horror films we’ve been getting recently and seems to be bending the genre in a way. I see a lot of potential in Berbarian Sound Studio (even if the title is bland at best) and will be keeping my eye on this one as it gears up for the Toronto International Film Festival next month. So with that, take a look at a handful of some great images of the film.

More Terrific Images of HBO’s ‘The Girl’

Ryan —  August 3, 2012 — 2 Comments

HBO’s The Girl is really starting to set itself apart from Fox Searchlight’s Hitchcock and while both of these films are about Sir Alfred Hitchcock they feature completely different stories. HBO just released an impressive set of photos which show off Toby Jones and Sienna Miller as Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren and the film looks absolutely stunning. Hitchcock better step it up because as of right now, The Girl looks incredible. Hats off to the make-up artists and costume designers on this film because Sienna Miller looks like she stepped right out of the screen of one of Hitchcock’s films.

Jones told Collider that watching the legendary director’s obsession with fashion model Tippi Hedren unfold on screen is absolutely intense. Jones also said, “He knew every single aspect of filmmaking, and I think he thought, ‘Well, I’ll just make her into a good enough actress. She has limitations as an actress, but I’m so able and so practical that I will be able to transform her to my needs.”

HBO will premier The Girl on October 20th. Check out the new photos below.

Great Look At Toby Jones As The Master Of Suspense

Ryan —  August 1, 2012 — 3 Comments

We’ve seen two Alfred Hitchcock-themed films go into production over the last year, one of them being the star studded cast led by Anthony Hopkins in Hitchcock. The other film is The Girl which has unfortunately been in the shadow of the other film and is getting much less attention than it most certainly deserves.

The Girl stars Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren. This film will focus on the relationship Hitchcock had with Hedren during their time together on The Birds and Marnie. While The former film focuses primarily on the making of Psycho, The Girl will shed some light on Hitchcock’s obsession with fashion model Tippi Hedren who he chose as his image of the “perfect” blonde. His obsession with her ultimately led to both of their careers getting destroyed.

I honestly can’t say which one I’m more excited for. Hitchcock has a stellar cast and the film will give us an amazing look at how he made Psycho with no studio’s backing him up and a very small budget. And on the other hand, The Girl will give us a never before seen look into the life of one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema.

The Girl will debut on HBO on October 20th. Check out some great pictures of Jones as Alfred Hitchcock.
