Oh man do I have a good one for you guys this time around on “The Art of Horror”. Mike Mitchell’s Mondo gallery show just recently opened which showcases his brilliant portraits of some of pop cultures greatest characters. He chose characters that he felt were more under appreciated in the world of pop culture art and by doing so his gallery became fantastically fresh and unique. He stripped away a lot of the character’s personality and brought his own unique take to the art by creating pieces that are silly, light hearted, funny, and sometimes angry, depressing or sad. His work is truly breathtaking and and I really think you guys are going to dig it. Continue Reading…

The Haunting of Helena rains teeth in these new stills

Ryan —  May 2, 2013 — 6 Comments

Just yesterday we learned that The Haunting of Helena was set for a release in June and now I’ve got a handful of new stills from the flick to show you guys and they are pretty damn wicked as one of them shows a moment where it begins to rain teeth — you don’t see that shit everyday! I really like what I see so far and I’m digging the whole horror twist on the Tooth Fairy legend as it definitely has some potential because anything that wants to go near my teeth can just f*ck right off. Yes, R.I.P.D. is a real movie, here's a picture to prove it

Ryan —  April 12, 2013 — 4 Comments

If you haven’t heard of R.I.P.D. yet, here’s the low down. It’s a ridiculous sounding supernatural action flick starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds about a recently slain cop who joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him. Yea, ridiculous. Love the first picture so far, mostly because of Bridges’ amazing old-school handle bar mustache. The guns look interesting also, but so does this entire flick. I’m all for this Dark Horse Comics adaptation, I love off-beat ideas like this and they’ve got a great cast made up of not only Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds but Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, Mary-Louise Parker, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley, James Hong, Robert Knepper and Tobias Segal.

Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department — the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat…reporting to one boss.” Yep — THAT boss. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailent, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he’s traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back — literally!

R.I.P.D. was just recently announced to be getting the 3D conversion treatment and is set for a July 19th release with Robert Schwentke at the helm.

The Divide scribe Karl Mueller will be making his directorial debut with Mr. Jones, part of the Midnight selection at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The new poster is striking and with out a doubt one of the better horror posters we’ve seen this year. Thanks to Poltergeist, tree’s have always held a dark place in my heart so this poster easily strikes a nerve with me. It’s absolutely fantastic!

Scott and Penny just moved to a remote cabin to escape the pressures of the world and breathe new life into their art. Their only neighbor for miles is a strange hermit who only comes out at night, under the shroud of darkness. As Scott and Penny get deeper into his world, they start to suspect that this man is actually an infamous artist known only as “Mr. Jones,” and they’ve stumbled across an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to document his bizarre existence.

But this is only the beginning. When Scott and Penny delve too deeply into Mr. Jones’ existence, everything around them turns in on itself, and their only escape is through the realm of their own nightmares…

Niell Blomkamp's dystopian epic Elysium gets a set of new stills

Ryan —  April 6, 2013 — 2 Comments

It’s a rare thing to get a peak at Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Elysium as the entire project has been tightly under wraps from the get-go. Today, however, a couple of new stills have made their way online showing leading man Matt Damon getting some work done on his skull — looks like fun! In the other pic we get a look at Alice Braga’s character.

I’m a sucker for a good sci-fi film and Blomkamp’s latest effort in the genre looks and sounds like it’s going to be one hell of a ride. Damon looks like a beast and the fact that this film has been able to be so secretive during the filming stages just makes this even more exciting because that is no easy thing to do these days.

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium – but that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means they can. Max (Matt Damon) agrees to take on a life-threatening mission, one that could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Alice Braga and Diego Luna also star in the Neill Blomkamp directed sci-fi epic which is set to hit theaters August 9th. Check out the new pics below!

The Purge is a fantastic looking low-budget thriller starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Heady from the Blumhouse crew. The Purge actually feels like a couple of movies — think, The Strangers meets You’re Next — and you would be right on track. Have no worries though because The Purge has one undeniably awesome theme that sets it apart from the rest.

The film is set during one horribly terrifying night for a suburban family in which for one night a year, nothing is illegal. Set to hit theaters May 31st, director James DeMonaco’s The Purge looks to be a promising addition to the home invasion family and certainly one to be excited about!

If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? In The Purge, a speculative thriller that follows one family over the course of a single night, four people will be tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home. In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity—including murder—becomes legal.

The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It’s one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking.

When an intruder breaks into James Sandin’s (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.

Here it is! The official trailer for the re-imagining of Stephen King’s classic novel, Carrie, is finally here! There was a lot of hype surrounding the flick for a while but ever since it got pushed all the way back to October we haven’t really heard much from the film. Now, with the first official trailer we can finally see exactly what Chloe Moretz will be like in the iconic role of Carrie White — and it’s pretty damn wicked!

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White and her daughter Carrie. Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson, but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell, regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

I gotta say, I really love this trailer. It pours on the suspense along with a bucket of pigs blood. What more could you want?

Some New Stills For Mitchell Altieri’s ‘Holy Ghost People’

Ryan —  February 20, 2013 — 2 Comments

We all know Mitchell Altieri as one half of the creative duo known as The Butcher Brothers. He’s been turning out some great stuff for the horror genre for years with his partner in crime Phil Flores. Altieri is currently setting up for his SXSW selected feature Holy Ghost People which will be a new look from the horror director as it isn’t entirely focused on horror like his other films. Have no fear because it looks like there will be plenty of darkness hidden behind the walls of Holy Ghost People which is being billed as a dark psychological thriller. The best kind!
