Back in 2006 we saw a brutal killer born out of the Honey Island Swamp by the name of Victor Crowley. When we were first introduced to this new breed of killer it brought audiences back to a time when slashers ruled the horror genre. Three films later, would Crowley leave a legacy behind he would be proud of? Adam Green passes the torch to BJ McDonnell who makes Hatchet III his directorial debut as it follows a search and recovery team that heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces and Marybeth learns the secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades. Adam Green’s 14th Annual Halloween Short Teaches Michael Myers How To Drive
Hatchet director Adam Green has made it a tradition to write and direct a Halloween short film every season. Now that we’ve officially entered the month of Halloween Green is back with another fantastic addition to his library of Halloween short films. His 14th effort is called Driving Lessons starring the always great Joel David Moore and Kane Hodder as Michael Myers. Green shot the short in a way that presents it as a fake deleted scene from John Carpenters classic, Halloween. How cool is it that Green convinced Kane Hodder — who is famous for playing the iconic Jason Vorhees —to suit up for Michael Myers.
So who gave Myers his driving lessons?

Posters For ‘Hatchet III’ And Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’
Hatchet III is on its way and we finally get the first teaser poster for the Adam Green produced horror film. Kan Hodder will be making his return to play the one and only hatchet face, Victor Crowley. I’m extremely happy to see the the third film coming to life because Kan Hodder’s Victor Crowley is starting to reach cult status and it’s truly an amazing character in the horror genre. There aren’t many slashers left in the horror universe so it’s nice to see a character as refreshing as Victor Crowley because he is a throwback to the slasher films of the 80′s.
“The story finds Harris hunting down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left Crowley’s ghost terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades. Mears will play a brooding, pompous SWAT team leader who is sent in to contain the carnage strewn about the haunted swamp. Williams will play a fast-talking journalist who fancies herself an expert on the legend of supernatural stalker Crowley.”
Check out the first teaser poster for the third film in the Hatchet trilogy.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim isn’t nearly as geared towards the horror genre as Adam Green’s Hatchet III but it’s freakin Guillermo del Toro and anything he does deserves our attention. Before the release of the poster no one could really get a grasp as to how big his robots were actually going to be. Well it’s safe to say that when he mentioned that the film was going to be “big” he wasn’t lying. These robots are massive which means that Del Toro’s monsters are going to be equally as big if not bigger. Count me in.
“Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.”

The Missing Reel
Here is a compilation of some of the stuff that mattered to me this week whether it be good or bad. This week we take a look at Kane Hodder’s return as Victor Crowley, some great new posters, and an insane bunny with a chainsaw. Enjoy.
First Look, ‘At Silver Falls’
Here is the first still for director Brett Donowho’s upcoming thriller, At Silver Falls which is inspired by a true-story of the unsolved murders of two twin girls. Here is what the director had to say about the upcoming film:
“At Silver Falls is as much a mystery thriller as it is a horror film. The emphasis is on story and character development, rather than the sudden scary jumps and visual effects often associated with the genre. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of those as well!”
Check out the creepy picture below.
Kane Hodder returns for ‘Hatchet III’
Great news for Hatchet fans. Kane Hodder will be returning to Adam Green’s slasher throwback film Hatchet as Victor Crowley. It’s great to see Hodder returning as the swamp killer for the third time and joining him will be Danielle Harris who began her Hatchet career with the second installment as Marybeth.
Hatchet III will pick up immediately after the second film ends, “as a search and recovery team heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces and Marybeth learns the secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades.”
Eli Roth’s Goretorium
Eli Roth has been behind a top secret project that has finally been unveiled. On September 27th in Sin City, Eli Roth and Robert Frey will open, “Eli Roth’s Goretorium” which is going to be a high tech year round haunted house that Roth intends to be the “world mecca for horror fans.”
“My favorite time of the year is Halloween, and my favorite halloween event is the haunted mazes,” said Roth. “There’s just nothing you can compare them to, it’s an all encompassing live scare. I want Halloween to be every night of the year. Horror is a year round global experience. It’s not just in October anymore. We are building the world mecca for horror fans, incorporating the latest technology with old fashioned scares.”
In the downstairs area they pan to have a bar and movie prop and costume museum, with a horror themed bar upstairs with caged zombie dancers to top it all off.
Posters for ‘The Possession’, ‘Juan of the Dead’, ‘Final Girl’, and ‘A Fantastic Fear of Everything’
Last week the first image for the horror film based on a real-life haunted box The Possession was released and now they have just released the first official poster for the film and it looks great.
This next poster is pretty awesome and comes to us from Cuba where they made this ridiculous zombie filmed cleverly named Juan of the Dead.
“The zombie world has yet to witness one last stand – Cuba. An outbreak hits the island on the anniversary of the revolution, so Juan and his friends set out to conquer the undead who, according to government reports, are unruly Americans continuing their quest of undermining the regime.”
And finally, here is the great Simon Peg in his whitey-tighties in this awesome new poster from his upcoming psychological comedy, A Fantastic Fear of Everything.
In the film, “Jack (Simon Pegg) is a children’s author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by the irrational fear of being murdered. When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in his script, what should be his ‘big break’ rapidly turns into his ‘big breakdown’, as Jack is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear.”
This next poster is by far my favorite and it comes from a filmed by Tyler Shields called Final Girl. The film follows a pack of feral teenage boys who choose the wrong girl to be the victim in their final initiation. Currently Shields is still trying to get the slasher off the ground and casting is still underway. At least we have this insane poster to grab our attention.
Tom Cruise as Van Helsing
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci along with Universal have announced that they will be re-imagining Van Helsing with Tom Cruise attached to star in and produce the film.
Bunnyman 2 Trailer Reeks of Insanity
If you plan of having nightmares of a grown ass man wearing a bunny costume that runs around with a chainsaw like Leatherface, then check out the below trailer. I wasn’t overly impressed with the trailer because there is some very iffy acting going on with some hardcore B-movie style gore. This might be one of those films thats so bad it’s good. It is, however, worth watching the trailer just to see the Bunnyman because it’s absolutely ridiculous. Take a look.
The End
There you have it, some of the stuff that mattered to me this week. If you missed last weeks edition of The Missing Reel, check it out here.
As always, thanks for reading.
