Archives For Julianne Moore

Poor Carrie White, she just wanted to be like everyone else. Sometimes it’s okay to be a little different though, something the film struggles with from the get-go. Kimberly Peirce’s take on Stephen King’s classic novel of the same name tries much to hard to please the wrong audience and ends up being a missed opportunity. Carrie is a horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. This is pretty much the best possible news we could have gotten from Kimberly Peirce’s upcoming take on Carrie. A rating is everything in a horror film because it determines a lot of what we’ll actually see on screen. With a film like Carrie, you absolutely need to see everything because seeing Carrie’s wrath is what the story is all about.  Continue Reading…

EW’s Comic-Con issue shows a bloodied Carrie

Ryan —  July 10, 2013 — 2 Comments

This week’s EW issue is a special Comic-Con edition, and on the cover is none other than Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie and she’s covered in a lot of red stuff we dig so much around these parts! Kimberly Peirce’s take on Carrie is said to be a more faithful adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel which will open in theaters on October 18th! Continue Reading…

While we still have a pretty lengthy wait until we see Carrie hit the silver screen in October, we at least have some new stills to hold us over until then. I’ve been following Carrie since the first rumors of Chloe Moretz taking the lead as Carrie White and for those of you who have been reading my blog since then you’ll know that I’ve been on board from the beginning. I really dig the cast and I believe that Moretz will surprise a lot of people. I also like the fact that this adaptation is going to be more faithful to Stephen King’s novel.

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

Directed by Kimberly Peirce, Carrie pours into theaters on October 18th. Check out the new stills!

Chloe Moretz Covered In Pigs Blood In First Look At ‘Carrie’ Remake

Ryan —  August 23, 2012 — 1 Comment

Finally some pics have arrived for the upcoming remake of Carrie starring Chloe Moretz as Carrie White. Entertainment Weekly got their hands on a couple of the very first images of the film and they are absolutely fantastic. If you are even remotely familiar with the classic Stephen King tale then you’ll recognize that the first photo is a pivotal scene in the film, one in which things end very badly for some high school students. The other image is of Julian Moore as the evil mother Margaret White and upon seeing the first photo of her in character you can immediately see why she was chosen for the role because she looks fantastic.

Brian De Palma’s masterful vision of Stephen King’s novel is beloved by horror fans all across the world and once it was announced that Sony Screen Gems would be giving it the remake treatment it sent up a huge red flag for fans. While it may be too early to tell from the first set of images, it looks they are not only staying faithful to the King novel but to De Palma’s vision as well. The cast is quite good from the ground up and with these newest set of photos I think it’s safe to say that Carrie is continuing to move in the right direction.

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine, is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter, Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of CARRIE earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

Go Behind-the-Scenes Of ‘Carrie’ With Buckets Of Blood

Ryan —  August 16, 2012 — 4 Comments

The Sony Gems remake of Carrie is currently filming in Toronto with Kimberly Peirce helming the project. While none of these are “official” images they still show a great behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest horror films of 2013.

The cast and crew have been sharing some of these images through different social avenues featuring some great pictures from the set including buckets of blood and what would Carrie be without those?

Starring the wonderful Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, and Judy Greer the film is set for a March 13, 2013 theatrical release.

More on 'Carrie' and Sam Raimi to Produce 'Poltergeist'

Ryan —  May 1, 2012 — 5 Comments

There are so many remakes in the works at the moment that you could dedicate a blog solely on all of the different reboots that are making their way to the screen. The newest addition to remakes is the Steven Spielberg produced and Tobe Hooper directed horror classic Poltergeist. This is one of those films that I always pictured to be untouchable because in my eyes Poltergeist is the perfect horror movie. The characters are so believable which is a rare commodity in the horror genre and there are scenes in the film that are completely unforgettable. Anyone who has seen Poltergeist remembers the swimming pool scene when the skeletons float out of the water. Or how about the scene where the boy tries to throw his coat over the clown doll’s face but misses allowing it to stare back at him while he sleeps? It is a classic in every sense of the word and now it’s getting the remake treatment.

It is great to see Raimi getting back into the horror genre because he’s one of the people who helped make it what it is today. It is just the whole idea of a remake of Poltergeist that I feel is unnecessary because I can’t imagine it capturing the same level of horror as the original. Everyone would agree that this would be much easier to swallow had Raimi himself been behind the camera but unfortunately he will only be producing along with Nathan Kahane and Roy Lee.

Up next we have some more interesting news on a remake I am much more on board for. Being a huge fan of Chloe Moretz who is no stranger to the horror genre (Let Me In), I think she is going to do a fantastic job with the iconic character. Here is what Moretz had to say about the role:

It’s an amazing role, and I’m so excited to get in there and try to tackle it and see what I can change up. It’s already been done, and there’s already been the amazing, amazing Sissy Spacek version of it, but what I really want to do is spice it up and take a more modern, younger approach to it because I am going through what Carrie is going through. She’s figuring out who she is, and I just really want to get in there and see what I can do, feel it out.

Also, from various sources it is rumored that Carrie will be a much more faithful adaptation of the Stephen King novel because there will be an element of found footage to the film. And it makes sense because in King’s novel it is broken up into different interviews with the survivors of the prom incident making the entire thing much more mysterious because no one other than the few survivors really knew what happened on the night of Carrie’s prom. And this is why I am much more accepting of the Carrie remake because if the rumors are true then at least they are trying something new and it isn’t going to be a complete carbon copy of the original film.

And last but certainly not least it has been confirmed that Julianne Moore has been in talks to play Carrie’s mom.

Carrie is set to open on March 15th, 2013.

As always, thanks for reading.
