The Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds starring supernatural action-comedy R.I.P.D. seemingly came out of now where just a few days ago with a new image and just like that, here’s the film’s first trailer! I’ve got to say, it’s pretty damn awesome and not at all what I was expecting. In the trailer Jeff Bridges immediately steals the show by delivering some solid one-liners and just generally being a badass. So far R.I.P.D. looks like a lot of fun. Watch it below!

Nick is dead — at least, that’s how he remembers it — and teams up with another deceased detective, a gunslinger from the Old West (played by Jeff Bridges), to work for the elite task force, the Rest In Peace Department (hence the title), to track down the dead on Earth. (Due to overpopulation, some unsettled spirits haven’t gone where they’re supposed to, and are hiding out). Technically, R.I.P.D. officers (who are overseen by Mary-Louise Parker) aren’t allowed to kill anyone living, and aren’t supposed to interact with anyone from their previous lives, but Nick is haunted by the fact that he was murdered by another cop (played by Kevin Bacon), and can’t let it go.

Directed by Peter Schwentke (RED), this flick stars the great looking cast of Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker, Stephanie Szostak, and Marisa Miller.

Where the Devil Hides gets a teaser poster

Ryan —  April 17, 2013 — 5 Comments

Christian E. Christiansen’s latest flick went through a few name changes before finally landing on Where the Devil Hides and now it’s got an all new hi-res teaser poster for us to stare at. Earlier in the week there was a bootleg version of the poster floating around so if you dug it then, you’re really going to like it this time around.

Something very strange happened in the small village of New Bethlehem, a devout community kept under the tight reins of the town’s vigilant Elders. Six girls born on the same day to different mothers. Perhaps a coincidence or as most believe a chilling omen of something yet to come. Now, on the eve of their 18th birthday, the young women are mysteriously disappearing one by one and feared dead. Terror has overtaken this quiet community. Could this be the work of a serial killer, one of the village elders or a horrific prophecy come true, born of the supernatural, The Occult?

Directed by Christian E. Christiansen, Where the Devil Hides stars Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Carpenter, Colm Meaney, and Alycia Debnam Carey with an expected release of October 11th.

The Missing Reel is a compilation of all things horror and what mattered throughout the week. This week we take a look at a promotional trailer for Eli Roth’s Goretorium, some new pics of The Shining documentary Room 247, amazing VFX test footage for Stung and much more.

Eli Roth’s ‘Goretorium’ Promo Trailer

Let’s start this week’s edition of The Missing Reel off right with this amazing promotional trailer for Eli Roth’s Goretorium which is essentially a theme park for fans of horror. This gruesome and intense experience will be going nonstop year-round and is located in none other than Las Vegas. You can head over to the official website for tickets. Check out the trailer below.

Blue Hours Productions To Revive Classic Radio Anthology ‘Suspense’

Blue Hours Productions is bringing the classic radio anthology series Suspense back to life and will begin airing on SiriusXM Radio later this fall. The original series ran from the early 40′s all the way up until 1962 and was known as “radio’s outstanding theater of thrills” and would featured some of the horror legends that we know of today with Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, and Peter Lorre. That line-up is a horror fan’s wet dream. The original radio show aired a lot of murder mysteries but also dipped into stories of pure terror with adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror and Curt Siodmoak’s Donavan’s Brain. This is definitely something that I wish was still around because I would have loved to tune into something like that and I couldn’t be happier knowing that Blue Hours is reviving the show.

The new Suspense show plans to do the same with Blue Hours’ John C. Alsedek saying:

“While we’ll still be doing mystery stories, we’re also going for some bone-chilling horror… real pulp-era stuff! We’re very fortunate to have such marvelous actors and actresses to work with, along with some great guest stars; they allow us to really bring these amazing tales to life!”

‘Stung’ VFX Test Features One Massive Headache

There’s a new indie creature feature on its way from XYZ Films called Stung and they just released this awesome test footage that features a dude who’s going to have one hell of a headache. The film is being described as an old style action driven horror comedy in the same vein as films like Slither and Tremors. While this will most likely be a direct to DVD feature it’s absolutely worth watching this VFX footage because it’s actually kind of awesome. Also… bees suck.

The Mysteries Behind ‘The Shining’ Explored in ‘Room 237′

Room 237 has been a huge hit with it’s festival run so far and will now be screening at TIFF next month. Acquired by IFC Films the experimental documentary explores the many different theories that surround the true meaning of Stanley Kubrick’s classic, The Shining.

Room 237 is a subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick’s film The Shining. The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they’ll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.

Check out these great pics promoting the film.

Alfred Hitchcock’s Birthday

This week was Alfred Hithcock’s birthday. With that we celebrate with this awesome video that features every one of his cameo’s which is something he became extremely famous for. Part of the fun of watching some of his films is trying to spot Hitch’s quick cameo. This video makes life easier, check it out and see for yourselves.

‘Frogz Legz’ Teaser

I often wonder how some directors get the green light to make such ridiculously bad sounding films. I don’t know what indie film director Corin Hardy did in order to get this film the all important green light but he deserves an award of some sort because honestly this has to be one of the most WTF teasers I’ve ever seen.  I’m not claiming that this movie will be terrible because this is only a teaser, but anything with a french girl turning into a frog and devouring some poor virgin boy spells disaster. That being said, you don’t want to miss this teaser because wow… just wow. This can’t be real can it? I hope not.

The End

There you have it, some of the stuff that mattered in all things horror this week. As always, thanks for reading and if you happened to have missed the last edition of The Missing Reel be sure to check it out here:

Ryan —  August 10, 2012 — Leave a comment

The Missing Reel is a compilation of all things horror and what mattered throughout the week. This week we take a look at The Walking Dead invading Universal, a trailer for Eddie The Sleepwalking Cannibal, a Rob Zombie directed commercial and much more.

25th Anniversary ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ Poster

It marks the 25th anniversary for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors which will get a special screening at the Chinese 6 Theaters in Hollywood. With that, Mad Monster created this very cool poster for the film. Check it out.

Mickey Rourke Returns For ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’

Although he died in the original film that doesn’t mean Robert Rodriguez can’t bring back the tough as nails character for the sequel. Per Deadline, Rourke is currently in negotiations to make his return to Sin City 2 reprising his role as Marv.

“The film is about Dwight McCarthy planing to have his vengeance against the woman who betrayed him, Ava Lord, while Nancy is trying to cope with Hartigan’s death.”

Expected to go into production this summer the film is set for an October 4th, 2013 release.

New Trailer for Horror Comedy ‘Eddie, The Sleepwalking Cannibal’

This new take on the zombie genre looks quite funny and just got picked up for a U.S. distribution by Music Box Films.

The film concerns Lars Olafssen, a man unable to paint without inspiration.  He accepts a teaching gig at a small-time art school in Eastern Ontario. Somehow he inherits the guardianship of the offbeat town’s neighborhood weirdo, Eddie. As their unlikely friendship evolves, Lars uncovers a dark, violent secret about Eddie’s nocturnal impulses, and finds himself torn between his duty to his friend and his duty to his art.

‘The Walking Dead’ Announced For Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights

Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead will be excited to know that you can now experience those undead flesh-eating zombies in person at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. There will be a maze called The Walking Dead: Dead Inside as well as a Terror Tram. Check it out.

Rob Zombie Directed Pest Control Commercial

While we wait in agony for Rob Zombie’s latest feature film The Lords of Salem we’ll have to let this ridiculous pest control commercial from Amdro in which Rob Zombie directed. The commercial is pretty awesome and you can definitely see Zombie’s style of filmmaking in there.

‘Grim Night’ Finds A Director

Grim Night was announced a while ago but has never quite gotten itself going. All that is about to change, however, as it looks like they found a director in Dennis Gansel. Grim Night grabbed the attention of people with its pitch trailer which is more or less a promo than a trailer. What makes this particular horror film so intriguing is its story which has a pretty creepy premise.

Grim Night concerns one night out of the year in which everyone around the world locks themselves indoors and fights of “Grims,” creatures known to wipe out thousands of people for inexplicable reasons. The story focuses on one American family and their terrifying ordeal with these supernatural entities.

Heres the pitch trailer:

Horror Icons Turned Into Ice Scream

This is ridiculous and a bit unnecessary but I still find myself wanting one of these. A Russian company created this insane line of popsicles featuring the horror icons of Jason, Chucky, Freddy, Predator, and Pinhead. There isn’t much else to say on the matter, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves…
