TheDrownsman

Our very first taste of Chad Archibald’s supernatural chiller The Drownsman came to us with an incredible poster last month that really grabbed the attention of horror fans everywhere. With a trailer now released, will it live up to our expectations? Well, I can’t speak for everyone but so far The Drownsman looks like a pretty solid horror flick. The trailer oozes old school horror as it offers up a cool and original concept with a nasty villain at its core. It’s still much to early to tell if we’ve got something special on our hands with this one, but it’s certainly off to a great start and I can’t wait to see what The Drownsman has in store. Watch the trailer below and see what you think!

Here’s a synopsis:

After almost drowning in a lake, Madison finds herself bound to a life of fear. Unable to describe what happened to her during the moments she was underwater, Madison begins to develop hydrophobia: an abnormal fear of water. Crippled by her post trauma, Madison attempts to shut out the world around her but, her fear intensifies when she begins to be haunted by the vision of an evil figure. After watching her struggle for over a year, Madison’s four friends stage an intervention in a desperate attempt to help. In doing so, they accidentally open a floodgate to a dark place where none of them are safe. As Madison and her friends dive deeper into the dark historyof the evil that haunts them, they’re dragged one by one to a horrifying place where they may never return.

The Drownsman stars Michelle Mylett, Caroline Korycki, Gemma Bird Matheson, Sydney Kondruss, Clare Bastable and Ry Barrett. Look for it sometime in 2015.

I honestly believe that if you were ever attacked by a gorilla that you should just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of having each of your limbs ripped off.

This actually looks like it has some potential for some good scares (and not just because I have a phobia of drowning). Wonder if they’ll go the PG-13 route (the characters look high-school age)? I hope not, then again I’ve seem some PG-13 horror done right that was a total blast (Drag Me To Hell, Poltergiest, though that one I saw in the theater when I was so young it also terrified me-some scenes are still really nightmarish as an adult) and then there’s the one in ten or so that scared the fuck out of me (Mama, The Ring, Insidious). Trying not to get my expectations up, but this does look like it has the promise to be a scary good time–and hey, I think I even say some practical effects in there!

Because it’s an indie film I really doubt this one will be seeing a wide release, so I doubt they are worried about the rating. Honestly, I’d be surprised if this one isn’t R.
