A prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining was first announced to be moving forward last April, and now we might have a face to attach to it as reports are coming in that Warner Bros. is looking to get Children of Men and Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron to take the helm of The Overlook Hotel. After his latest film, Gravity, grossed $716 million worldwide for the studio, it’s not at all surprising that they’d look to him to bring this project to life. But then again, I’m sure Cuaron is getting showered in projects right now as he’s even being considered to direct the Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Continue Reading…

It has been a long road for the re-adaptation of Stephen King’s IT, which recently saw its first shred of hope back in 2013 when True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga took the helm. Now, in a rare turn of events, Warner Bros.—who has been developing the project for 5 years—has moved the project to their New Line division. According to THR, insiders say the siblings are drawing clearer distinctions about the types of movies they make. This is big news not just for IT but for horror in general. Continue Reading…
Mike Flanagan made some serious noise amongst the horror community back in April with the release of Oculus (read my review here), proving that he’s a horror director worth keeping an eye on. Now we’ll get to see the director take on one of the biggest voices the genre has to offer as he has been tapped to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game. Continue Reading…
The King of Monsters makes his long awaited return under the direction of Gareth Edwards, who breathes epic new life into a roaring Godzilla like we’ve never seen before. It raised a few eyebrows when Edwards took the helm behind one of cinema’s most iconic monsters because quite frankly, no one had ever heard of him. With just one film under his belt, Edwards had a lot to prove when his vision of Godzilla came stomping into our lives once again. Continue Reading…
If you’re unfamiliar with the freaky-as-shit true story of Elisa Lam’s mysterious death at the Cecil Hotel then let me clue you in real quick—On Feb. 21, 2013 the body of Elisa Lam was found dead in the water tanks on the roof of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. Her body was discovered in the tank weeks after she went missing, and only because the guests of the hotel were complaining about the taste and color of the water. It’s an incredibly creepy story that is even further cemented in mystery due to the fact that there is actual footage of Lam’s final moments before her death, and it’s totally nutso weird. As expected, the first trailer for the third V/H/S offering—V/H/S: Viral—is fueled by plenty of the red stuff and a hefty dose of insanity as it offers a quick look at each of the new segments in the film. Time will tell with this one, folks, but so far I really dig what I see here. My only hope is that the trailer didn’t spoil all the best scares because the true strength of these films lies with the level of mystery that you have going into them. That being said, the trailer is absolutely fantastic and exactly what you would expect from the franchise. Watch it below and see what you think! Continue Reading…
Not only is Kevin Smith developing a horror anthology surrounding the Christmas season monster known as Krampus, but Trick ‘R Treat director Michael Dougherty is looking to get in on some holiday fun as well! It’s hard to believe that it has been seven long years since Dougherty has been at the helm of a feature film after hitting the horror scene with his brilliant Halloween-themed anthology Trick ‘R Treat. That being said, today we’ve got some good news as Legendary Pictures has given the nod to Dougherty to direct the upcoming horror-comedy Krampus. Continue Reading…
Some quick directing news hit the world of horror today as two big names have both come and gone regarding their respective projects. First up, we learned that James Wan’s long-time partner in crime Leigh Whannell will make his directorial debut with the upcoming Insidious: Chapter 3. Whannell penned the scripts of the previous two films with Wan so it’s nice to see that the project will still be surrounded by its original creators. Continue Reading…
Our very first taste of Chad Archibald’s supernatural chiller The Drownsman came to us with an incredible poster last month that really grabbed the attention of horror fans everywhere. With a trailer now released, will it live up to our expectations? Well, I can’t speak for everyone but so far The Drownsman looks like a pretty solid horror flick. The trailer oozes old school horror as it offers up a cool and original concept with a nasty villain at its core. It’s still much to early to tell if we’ve got something special on our hands with this one, but it’s certainly off to a great start and I can’t wait to see what The Drownsman has in store. Watch the trailer below and see what you think! Continue Reading…
