It looks like Warner Bros. is going to feed the Mogwai after midnight as AICN is reporting that a remake to Joe Dante’s beloved 1984 classic, Gremlins, is currently on the fast track to the big screen. This news came in on the announcement that Richard Donner was moving forward with a sequel to another tentpole film from the 80′s—The Goonies.
There are pretty much no other details going around on this one at the moment other than the fact that it is supposedly moving quickly. A remake to Gremlins may come as a surprise for some, but the truth is that this one has been circling for years now, so it was only a matter of time. And it looks like that time is now, or at least very soon.
In the original film:
A boy inadvertently breaks 3 important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.
Gremlins is a film that—even to this day—holds up as one of the great horror-comedies to ever hit the silver screen. And I’m not going to lie, seeing those small, destructive bastards go on a rampage once again could be a whole hell of a lot of fun. The only problem is that Hollywood CG’s everything to death, sucking the very life out of most horror films. This one is happening whether we want it to or not, so the best thing we can do is sit back, relax, and hope that when these little guys get fed after midnight it’s half as entertaining as it was the first time, in 1984.

I will NOT relax about this! Lol. ; ) I hate Hollywood. Remaking bastards….
I know, man! Hopefully Spielberg and Dante will be involved somehow.
I’m still pissed off about Weird Science. I don’t know what’s happening with that – I avoided reading too much about that. Ugh! Stupid remakes. I’ll shut up now. ; )
Agreed!
I am growing pretty tired of remakes. I prefer originals. These are rare. To be honest, I am also growing weary about the abundance of superhero flicks. I am sure that I am in the minority on this issue.
Nah, I pretty much agree with you there. Remakes are getting tiresome but some of them do work and when they do it’s awesome. Superhero flicks could disappear forever and I’d be totally fine.
Yay! No wait I don’t really care. It is inevitable, like the passage of time itself :D
That it is! Let’s just hope it’s not cgi. That’s all I ask!
Well you know it would get the budget required for that level of CG so really it would have to be practical. You’d hope ;)
Lol, yea that’s a good point! We can only hope!
Awwwww, really? Damn.
Well… yet ANOTHER remake of something that does not need it!
