A lot of scary shit happens in the real world everyday, but it’s not too often we see something as mysterious and terrifying as the recent death of Elisa Lam. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has just acquired the rights to The Bringing, a horror script written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy and based on an actual place and series of events. The story is based on the mysterious death of Elisa Lam, a woman who was found dead in the water tanks on the roof of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. And they may have never found her body if it weren’t for the guests of the hotel who—two weeks after Lam’s death—started to complain about the taste and the color of the water. Can you believe that? What a terribly freaky story this is. Continue Reading…
I sure as shit hope so! If you haven’t been keeping count, here are the previous directors to recently fall out of adapting Stephen King’s classic novel to the big screen: David Yates, Ben Affleck and, of course, Scott Cooper have all fallen to the mighty story. Affleck dropped out for obvious reasons (to play Batman) and Cooper just couldn’t find a way to condense it into one single film so he ultimately left the project as well. Now, according to The Wrap, The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone has just been given the go-ahead to attempt what no one else has been able to do—bring The Stand to the biggest of screens. I’ve got some quick release date news to pass along to you guys as Warner Bros. has just slated the sequel to James Wan’s massive hit The Conjuring for an October 23, 2015 release, setting it up just in time to haunt theaters right before Halloween! At first glance it’s kind of surprising to see that they aren’t going to give it a July release where the original film pulled in over $300 million worldwide. But as you guys know, the summer movie season is filled with one blockbuster after another, and 2015′s summer schedule is looking quite crowded with films like Avengers, Terminator, Mad Max, Jurassic World, Ant Man and Ted 2—just to name a few—all hitting theaters that summer. You can tell right away that Joe Begos’ indie throwback Almost Human was heavily influenced by films like Carpenter’s Halloween and The Thing with even a little bit of Invasion of the Body Snatchers thrown in there as well. And what you get when you combine all of those elements is 80 minutes of gooey practical effects and nonstop thrills. The film centers on Mark Fisher, a man who disappeared from his home in a brilliant flash of blue light almost two years ago. His friend Seth Hampton was the last to see him alive. Now a string of grisly, violent murders leads Seth to believe that Mark is back, and something evil is inside of him. Continue Reading…
One of the more exciting projects to be heading our way in the future is a little film by the name of Holland, Michigan. Back in September of 2013, Naomi Watts (below) got the nod to star in the film as a teacher who begins to suspect that her docile husband is a serial killer. And now it appears that the serial-killer-to-be is none other than the great Bryan Cranston! We all know that Cranston can play a serial killer with as much ease as anyone in the business, so this one outta be something special—especially with the rest of the talent involved, including Edgar Ramirez. Jim Jarmusch takes on cinema’s oldest monsters in his modern tale of two vampires who want nothing more than to be together for eternity. Only Lovers Left Alive may be a little too bland for your average moviegoer, but it offers a unique and off-centered look into the romance of a couple of lovers who have been together for centuries. The film is simple enough as it’s centered on two vampires who’s love has been stretched for hundreds of years. Tom Hiddleston stars as Adam, a bloodsucker who makes a living as a reclusive musician who reunites with the love of his life, Eve (Tilda Swinton), a fellow vampire who leaves her home overseas to be with him. It looks like Eli Roth’s return to horror with The Green Inferno was only him warming up because word is coming in that he already has his eyes set on his next horror venture with a little film entitled Knock Knock. According to The Wrap, Roth will direct from an original screenplay he co-wrote with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo—his co-writers from Aftershock. This is huge news for the horror community because Roth’s in-your-face vision and storytelling has been sorely missed in the genre since he took a six-year long hiatus between Hostel: Part II and The Green Inferno. Right on the heels of yesterday’s poster debut for Ti West’s The Sacrament is the film’s very first red-band trailer. I’ve watched the trailer a couple of times now, and I can’t for the life of me figure why it has been labeled with a red band. Nonetheless, the trailer for one of 2014′s most anticipated horror movies is now available for you guys to check out, and it’s pretty solid. Look for The Sacrament on VOD May 1st! Continue Reading…
