The horror genre has been treated to a couple of fantastic trailers over the last few days with Dead Snow 2 and The Babadook leaving quite the impression on fans. Continuing that trend is the first trailer for Mike Flanagan’s haunter Oculus, which recently landed on my “Most Anticipated” list.

Each year, horror sees plenty of entries in the haunted house subgenre, but rarely do any of them leave much of an impression on fans. And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that most of these movies simply just look the same. It’s almost like if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. James Wan’s The Conjuring is without a doubt the new staple in the haunted house genre, but not because it did anything different, but because it did what it was supposed to do extremely well—scare the audience.

While it’s much to early to say how Oculus stacks up with some of the other films in its genre, it’s certainly off to a great start with this hair-raising trailer—the creepy narration really did it for me on this one, guys!

Oculus is a spine-chilling supernatural tale of two damaged siblings (Gillan and Thwaites) who, as children, witnessed their parents’ harrowing descent into madness and murder. At long last, brother and sister reunite as adults to expose and destroy the paranormal entity they believe is responsible: the Lasser Glass — a legendary mirror their family once owned.

Oculus stars Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites with Rory Cochrane, Katee Sackhoff, Annalise Basso, Garrett Ryan, James Lafferty and Miguel Sandoval. It will open in theaters on April 11th. Check out the trailer below!

I honestly believe that if you were ever attacked by a gorilla that you should just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of having each of your limbs ripped off.

It’s a WWE picture and surprisingly it looks as though they didn’t throw a Superstar in as a cameo role.

WWE is merely helping to fund it I believe, and did not actually help create much of it. This has been rave reviews, so I actually have high hopes for it. April needs to come sooner!

That’s actually why I’m so excited about this one because of all the positive buzz it has had. April needs to hurry up!

Agreed, April has a few promising films coming out both in the world of horror, and elsewhere.

That looks really creepy. I have a thing about mirrors, so I dunno if I’ll be up to watching this. Oh, who am I kidding? Of course I’ll watch it! I just won’t sleep for a week after, that’s all :-p
It’s also pretty awesome that Karen Gillan is in this. She was awesome on Doctor Who!

Totally dig this trailer. I watched it the other day and it looks quite spooky. Looking forward to this one. Have you seen “Haunter” with Abigail Breslin?
