Grand Piano is a masterful thriller from director Eugenio Mira who channels his inner Hitchcock with a nerve shattering tale of man who quite literally has to play the concert of his life. Elijah Wood plays Tom Selznick, the most gifted pianist of his generation who gave up on performing due to his stage fright. Five years after a catastrophic performance, Selznick makes his long-awaited return in front of a packed theater. But only moments before his comeback performance, he discovers a note written on his music sheet: “Play one wrong note and you die.” Truly a setup that the Master of Suspense himself would appreciate. Jonathan Glazer’s adaptation of Michael Faber’s Under the Skin has just been given a pretty wicked little red-band teaser trailer that is quite literally an eyeful. Under the Skin premiered back in September at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival where it was quickly met with high praise, which was actually a surprise to me because this is one of those flicks that could have easily crashed and burned. It turns out that Scarlett Johansson playing a deadly alien who preys on humans is a recipe for success! Who would have thought? Continue Reading…
Is horror looking good in 2014 or what? In Fear is a flick I’ve been writing about for well over a year so it’s nice to see this one finally have a release date attached to it. To celebrate, a new trailer has been released that puts Jeremy Lovering’s psychological horror debut on display in what promises to be one hell of a ride into terror as it is being described as “home invasion in a car”. How does an old school looking zombie flick directly influenced by Lucio Fulci and Umberto Lenzi go unnoticed in the horror world? I’m not entirely sure, but Brett Mullen’s Bombshell Bloodbath managed to do just that as it snuck up on us all with its undead legs and blood thirsty groans for human flesh. The trailer has been around for a while but it’s just now starting to gain traction amongst genre fans and it looks like an insanely entertaining throwback to the glory days of 80′s horror. The horror genre has been treated to a couple of fantastic trailers over the last few days with Dead Snow 2 and The Babadook leaving quite the impression on fans. Continuing that trend is the first trailer for Mike Flanagan’s haunter Oculus, which recently landed on my “Most Anticipated” list. Continue Reading…
The long talked about adaptation of the 1962 sci-fi classic The Day of the Triffids had sort of slipped out of existence for a while. The last we heard about this one was way back in 2012 and at the time Neil Cross had been given the nod to pen the screenplay, but other than that not a whole hell of a lot has happened with this one. Today, Deadline reported that not only is the film alive and well but they have found the right man for the job to bring this adaptation to life on the big screen once again. Continue Reading…
Tommy Wirkola’s Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead has just unleashed an official trailer and it puts the head exploding teaser we saw last month to shame. The trailer reveals exactly why the film has been dubbed “Red vs. Dead” as our hero summons an army of the undead to help him in his fight against the Nazi zombies. Who in the hell saw that coming!? Continue Reading…
We now finally have our very first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated vampire series The Strain, from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It’s nice to finally catch a glimpse of the show despite the fact that it’s only a teaser. The source material is extremely dark which is exactly what this teaser points to as an eclipse blankets New York City in darkness, leaving only a disturbing message behind: He is here… Continue Reading…
Back in December we got our very first look at the Ryan Reynolds-starring genre bender The Voices, from director Marjane Satrapi. Well, now that the Sundance Film Festival is in full swing, we are starting to see more and more cool promotional material for a lot of the horror flicks that are having their premiere at the festival.
