And just like that a new director is being eyed to tackle the daunting task of brining Stephen King’s epic novel The Stand to life on the biggest of screens. I mentioned last week that Warner Bros. has been hellbent on getting this project off the ground and that they would no doubt have a long list of directors that they want to helm the film. According to Badass Digest, Paul Greengrass (above) is at the very top of their wish list. How’s that for an interesting choice?

Greengrass has been behind some of the best recent thrillers around with the last two Bourne films as well as his recent Captain Phillips. Greengrass could bring a certain level of realism to this adaptation that I don’t think a lot of other directors could offer. That being said, there are some elements to King’s novel that you could say are out of his wheelhouse. Even so, that’s exactly what would make his involvement so intriguing. Right now Greengrass remains on WB’s wish list and there has been no word on whether he has been offered or even been approached for the project, so treat this as exactly that—a wish.

One man escapes from a biological weapon facility after an accident, carrying with him the deadly virus known as Captain Tripps, a rapidly mutating flu that – in the ensuing weeks – wipes out most of the world’s population. In the aftermath, survivors choose between following an elderly black woman to Boulder or the dark man, Randall Flagg, who has set up his command post in Las Vegas. The two factions prepare for a confrontation between the forces of good and evil.

What do you think? Would you like to see Greengrass helm The Stand? If not, who would be on your wish list?

I enjoy life, living comes so naturally to me; its a precious gift like boobs… or rockets. I honestly believe that if you were ever attacked by a gorilla that you should just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of having each of your limbs ripped off.

I’m not familiar with this guy but I do love The Stand – I’m interested to see what they do with it this time around.

What.. you’ve never seen any of the Bourne films?! That’s something that you should probably fix.

No, I saw the first one. Was terrifically bored. Those aren’t really my type of films.

He would be a freaking amazing choice. Doubt it will come about, but I’m keen.

Yea, that’s what I’m thinking as well. He’s an amazing choice, making it that much less likely it will happen. Wishful thinking!
