Joe Dante, the director behind horror classics like Gremlins, The Howling and Piranha, is bringing the genre a new horror-comedy titled Burying the Ex. Today The Wrap got word that Voltage Pictures has come aboard to finance and produce the flick, which sounds quite entertaining and the perfect vehicle for Dante to do what he does best—make us laugh while surrounding us in the red stuff.
Worth noting is the phenomenal cast that the film has pieced together as it sees Anton Yelchin (who I think is pretty underrated; pictured above) star alongside Ashley Greene (below), Alexandra Daddario and Oliver Cooper. That’s a pretty solid line-up if you ask me. Where things get interesting, however, is the direction that Dante and scribe Alan Trezza have decided to take the zombie film. It’s not easy breathing new life into such a tired genre, but it appears we could be in for something quite different and potentially a lot of fun.
Max (Yelchin) and Evelyn (Greene) as their relationship takes a nose dive once they move in together. Max discovers how controlling and manipulative Evelyn is but he’s too scared to break up with her. When fate steps in and Evelyn dies in a freak accident, newly-single Max prepares to move on with Olivia (Daddario). His romantic life becomes complicated when Evelyn rises from the grave and sets out to get her boyfriend back, even if that means turning him into one of the undead.
Production on Burying the Ex started today in L.A. so hopefully I’ll have more info on this one soon.
Anton Yelchin is a fantastic actor because it seems that there is nothing he can’t do (he’s done sci-fi, horror, and comedy already). I can’t wait to see how this goes over.
Exactly. Such an under appreciated actor. Can’t wait to see him in a Joe Dante film!
Aaah! Mr. Dante…the staple of my youth. It’s good to hear he’s back.
I know right. Just watched Gremlins again the other day, that film held up quite well! Can’t wait to see what he comes up with for this one.
The ex from hell, poor guy won’t stand a chance against a undead ex with an agenda. Will watch this, he is a good actor. I’m sorry I find this funny but that’s my warped sense of humor!
It’s supposed to be funny! Yelchin is great, so is Greene so I’m expecting this to be a fun one.
