One horror franchise I have no problem admitting that I kind of hate is Friday the 13th. Talk about beating a dead horse. And apparently Paramount prefers to beat their dead horses over and over again with a machete. Paramount has just announced a release date for the upcoming reboot of Friday the 13th which will hit theaters on that very day on March 13, 2015. Continue Reading…

CAPTAIN KRONOS BLACKBOXCLUB HAMMER FILMS 91

Hammer Films not only wants to revive The Abominable Snowman, but now they’ve directed their attention towards the 1974 classic Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter; and they’re eying none other than Kill List and Sightseer’s director Ben Wheatley (below) for the job. Wait a second… could Ben Wheatley be possibly directing a vampire flick? Read on! Continue Reading…

And just like that a new director is being eyed to tackle the daunting task of brining Stephen King’s epic novel The Stand to life on the biggest of screens. I mentioned last week that Warner Bros. has been hellbent on getting this project off the ground and that they would no doubt have a long list of directors that they want to helm the film. According to Badass Digest, Paul Greengrass (above) is at the very top of their wish list. How’s that for an interesting choice? Continue Reading…

With the most recent announcement of Hammer Films remaking The Abominable Snowman, and plenty more on the horizon, it’s actually hard to believe that there are any horror films left to be remade. Poltergeist, Hellraiser and The Mummy are just a fraction of the horror films recently announced to get the remake treatment. For the longest time I dreaded the day that we would ever see a remake of Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist because in my opinion it’s one of the most perfect horror movies ever made. It still holds up quite well today and remains one of the very best haunted house movies the genre has ever seen, so why would we need a remake? Well, as you guys know, a Poltergeist remake is most definitely happening, and it will be at the hands of director Gil Kenan. Continue Reading…

You know who needs a reinvention? The Abominable Snowman! Seriously, that’s a monster that everyone associates with a cartoon these days so I think it’s a fantastic idea to make him scary again; and that’s exactly what the classic genre movie studio, Hammer Films, aims to do. Hammer looks to go way back in their history of films and reboot their 1957 classic The Abominable Snowman— it’s about the mythical creature called the Yeti who lives in the Himalayas. Continue Reading…

The-Crow

Casting rumors are fun, aren’t they? The Crow getting a reboot is old news as we’ve known for quite some time that the film is set to be directed by Javier Gutierrez with a script by Cliff Dorfman. Also, series creator James O’Barr will work as a consultant on the film, which is said to begin production in 2014. Continue Reading…

Let’s take a quick break from horror films and direct our attention to the real life terrors of the world. The ocean covers 71 percent of the Earth’s surface and contains 97 percent of the planet’s water, yet more than 95 percent of the underwater world remains unexplored. And that right there is why I keep my ass out of the ocean—If I can avoid becoming some sea creature from hell’s happy meal, I’m certainly going to. Continue Reading…

Dammit. This one hurts, and for a few reasons. The biggest being that the long awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s masterpiece, The Stand, has hit yet another snag in the road leaving a bunch of question marks in the process. If you folks remember, Scott Cooper—director of Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace—was brought on board to replace Ben Affleck, who was originally attached. Now, The Wrap reports that Scott Cooper has fallen off of The Stand, Warner Bros.’ planned film adaptation of the Stephen King novel, according to two individuals familiar with the project. Their reasoning? “Creative differences”, says one of those individuals. Continue Reading…

Somnia is a very interesting little horror-thriller from Mike Flanagan that explores something that the genre surprisingly rarely sees. The film being described as a haunting, emotionally absorbing horror film about an orphaned child whose dreams—and nightmares—manifest physically as he sleeps. The possibilities with a horror film with a set-up that explores nightmares are endless, and it opens plenty of doors for the film to be something truly unforgettable. Continue Reading…
