Some of you fine readers might remember when I talked about Universal’s upcoming reboot of The Mummy a while back. In case you’re out of the loop, up until today it was known that Len Wiseman was attached to direct the film for Universal. Well, because of some pesky scheduling issues Wiseman had to drop out completely. Despite the film’s director leaving the project, it is said to be “still moving full-speed ahead” — so if you were looking forward to a new take on the classic character, you have nothing to worry about in that regard. Ti West and Eli Roth’s The Sacrament headed to TIFF; see a new still and plot details
Ti West’s latest horror film, The Sacrament, will see its World Premiere at TIFF this year as part of their Vanguard program. Up until now there really hasn’t been much word surrounding West’s mystery project. Hell, the last we heard about The Sacrament was back in late January so it’s nice to not only see that it’ll be premiering very soon but we’ve also got a new still to have a look at. Evil Dead director Fed Alvarez gearing up for secret sci-fi flick Machina
A secret sci-fi film from Fede Alvarez? You’ve got my attention! Lately we’ve been hearing a lot from Alvarez about a potential Evil Dead sequel and the direction he’d like to take it. One thing he forgot to mention during all of this was that he’s been quietly working on a pitch idea for a little sci-fi film called Machina. Now that the cat is out of the bag, it looks like Alvarez’s sales pitch was a success because he has just sold the sci-fi project to MRC. Hell. Yes. Continue Reading…
Richard Raaphorst’s Frankenstein’s Army is a found-footage creature feature that brings nightmares to life with its wicked man-made monsters. It’s the perfect midnight movie full of blood and guts with a dash of humor. The film takes place towards the end of World War II where a squad of Russian soldiers stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Victor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein’s work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades – a desperate Hitler’s last ghastly ploy to escape defeat. Shaun of the Dead gets Mondo treatment from Tyler Stout
With The World’s End right around the corner, the Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline, Austin’s newest theater, had a grand opening celebration over the weekend with a triple feature of Edgar Wright’s “Blood and Ice Cream” Trilogy, including an advance screening of Wright’s The World’s End which will close out the trilogy. At the screening they surprised the audience with an on-screen reveal of Tyler Stout’s Shaun of the Dead poster — and in typical Stout fashion, it kicks some serious ass. Continue Reading…
This is why I started “The Art of Horror“; to showcase the amazing work of artists from all around the world. Giuseppe Cristiano’s work will blow you away — simple as that. He’s a former comic artist and has been drawing storyboards for almost two decades and his experience really shines through in his unbelievable art. While I may know next to nothing about art, I do know incredible work when I see it. And that’s what we’ve got here folks! All of his work has the same style but he brings something new to each and every piece. If I had to pick a favorite, I’d have to go with his take on John Landis’ 1981 classic An American Werewolf in London. It’s the iconic transformation scene from the film and it’s all sorts of badass. If you want to see more art from Cristiano, be sure to head over to his site and have a look around. Enjoy! Continue Reading…
Potential Godzilla sequel will Destroy All Monsters!
While we still have to wait a year for the upcoming remake of Godzilla, that hasn’t stopped Gareth Edwards from coming up with a potential sequel idea — and it’s pretty awesome! In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Edwards talks about one of his favorite films from the original series as well as what he’d like to do with a sequel.
“With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters. I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe, I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira.”

With all of the success and hype surrounding James Wan’s The Conjuring, you knew something like this was going to happen eventually. In a recent article on Woonsocket Call, it has been revealed that the current residents of the Harrisville, R.I. home are being disturbed by fans of the movie who want to take a peak at the house that inspired the film.
“We haven’t slept in days,” Norma Sutcliffe told The Call. “Because we wake up at 2 in the morning there are people with flashlights in our yard. People call on the phone and ask “is this ‘The Conjuring’ house?” I can imagine that being pretty damn annoying. Obviously there’s really no harm in being curious and wanting to see the house that inspired it all. Hell, I myself went and checked out the Amityville Horror house a few years ago that I admired from a distance. However, it only takes one nut job to turn curiosity into something much worse, which is exactly what the couple are afraid of. Continue Reading…
V/H/S 2 and Hobo with a Shotgun director Jason Eisener takes us on a minute-long trip into under water hell with his latest short film One Last Dive. With only one short minute to spare, Eisener’s film is a terrifying look at what a a search and rescue team find in the murky depths of a lake. What they find at the bottom is nothing short of terrifying. It may only be a minute long but it accomplishes exactly what it set out to do — and that is to make you think twice before you ever go swimming at night again!
