TV adaptation of Guillermo del Toro's The Strain finds leading man

Ryan —  April 25, 2013 — 4 Comments

We haven’t really heard a whole lot from FX’s adaptation of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s vampire tale The Strain but it looks like things are starting to pick up as Deadline reports that Corey Stoll (below) has landed a leading role in the series.

Carlton Cuse of Bates Motel is acting as showrunner on the pilot which will be directed by Guillermo del Toro himself from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan. The Strain formally has a pilot order but FX president John Landgraf has indicated it is being eyed for a series order. The project already has a full writing staff in place churning out scripts so there’s definitely a good chance we’ll see a solid run for the series. I really enjoyed the novels and each one gets darker than the next so hopefully this thing proves to be successful because FX could really have a hit on their hands.

When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport and goes dark on the runway, the Centers for Disease Control, fearing a terrorist attack, calls in Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team of expert biological-threat first responders. Only an elderly pawnbroker from Spanish Harlem suspects a darker purpose behind the event – an ancient threat intent on covering mankind in darkness.

Wes Craven's Scream to become a TV series

Ryan —  April 25, 2013 — 6 Comments

According to THR it looks like MTV is going to move forward with a pilot based on Wes Craven’s Scream franchise. So whether you wanted a Scream television series or not, it’s definitely happening and it might even see Craven himself direct the pilot — which would actually be pretty damn cool.

The series will be produced with Dimension Films as MTV currently looks for writers for the one-hour project. If it gets a series order, the show would be slated for a summer 2014 launch and will see it joining the likes of “Teen Wolf” and “Awkward”.

I’m pretty confident that this will get a full series order simply because the franchise is so damn popular. Not only have we been seeing a ton of horror themed shows coming to the small screen as of late, but they’ve actually been successful which tells us that people are really digging what the horror genre has to offer. Hopefully, if we do see a full series order for Scream, it finds the same success as MTV’s other shows because it’d be pretty wicked to see the franchise thrive as a tv series.

Universal sets a release date for Dracula

Ryan —  April 25, 2013 — 2 Comments

Universal Pictures is really getting the ball rolling with their upcoming bloodsucking tale Dracula as they’ve just announced that the flick will hit theaters on August 8, 2014. Luke Evans just recently nabbed the leading role in the film which tells origin story of the most famous of vampires.

The script tells of a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.

The latest draft of the script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless with Michael De Luca producing and commercial helmer Gary Shore taking a seat in the director’s chair. It’s nice to see this one getting fast tracked after it seemed all but dead not too long ago — hopefully it doesn’t suck!

A behind-the-scenes look at Godzilla's rampage!

Ryan —  April 25, 2013 — 3 Comments

Legendary Pictures has just released a new behind-the-scenes look from the Canadian set of Godzilla which is now filming. It’s a pretty cool pic that shows us just enough carnage to let us know that Godzilla was there — something tells me that this is just the beginning of his rampage though!

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Richard T. Jones, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Patrick Sabongui, Yuki Morita, Brian Markinson, Juliette Binoche, Akira Takarada, Victor Rasuk, and Ken Watanabe are all starring in the flick.

Godzilla is being directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Right now the expected release date is May 16, 2014 so we still have about a year before we get to see the big green bastard tearing down the big screen!
