A prequel to The Shining looks to be on the way regardless of whether we want one or not. The Shining has been a pretty hot topic as of late with Stephen King’s sequel, Doctor Sleep, in the works as well as the hit documentary Room 237 making the rounds. There is no denying that there’s plenty of room to explore with a prequel — what’s the deal with the twins? Or what about Lloyd the bartender? What are their stories? Who knows which direction they’ll take The Overlook Hotel but there are certainly plenty of interesting paths. I’m notoriously optimistic with remakes, sequels, and prequels — so before jumping off the cliff with everyone else, I’m actually going to give this one a chance.
It has been announced that former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara is in talks to write The Overlook Hotel, a prequel to the Stanley Kubrick-directed adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining. The film will be developed over at Warner Bros and will be produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt, and Laeta Kalogridis.
