On My Honor, I Will Do My Best To Kill Zombies

When I was just 6 years old I created my first real memory, that memory came from watching George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. Ever since then I’ve convinced myself that a Zombie outbreak is and will happen someday. All we need is a satellite to come crashing down to earth carrying space radiation that has the ability to bring the dead back to life.  So what are you going to do…when a shit full of dead people comes in and starts eating up the entire town? Most of the people I know will probably just curl up into a tiny ball and think about pancakes until it was all over. So while your getting guzzled down like man sushi, I’ll be prepared!

Let’s say, hypothetically of course, that you needed to be saved from a pack of vicious and hungry zombies that want to make a meal out of you. What would you want to see come barreling down on the undead to save your life? I don’t know about you but I can think of a few things, like a robot with chainsaw arms or even Rambo. But one thing, however, that doesn’t cross my mind, is boy scouts. If I found out that my life was in the hands of some boy scouts, I would first and foremost spend the next 5 minutes crying. I would then immediately let a zombie bite me because I’d like to think that I would make a pretty good zombie.

I’d be the one that quietly hides in a dark corner waiting for the perfect moment to bite one of the main characters.

Etan Cohen feels much differently though. Cohen, being one of the bigger comedy writers working today with Tropic Thunder and his most recent work on Men in Black III definitely knows how to tell a funny story. He has recently been in negotiations to have his very first round in the director chair with a horror-comedy called Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. The script was written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki and it actually made the Black List in 2010 which is a list of Hollywoods “best” unproduced scripts.

The title of the film says it all. Not much has been said about the project since it is still in the early stages. It’s about boy scouts who must save a group of girl scouts from a pack of hungry zombies. I actually think that this might be pretty awesome especially if it’s set in 1950′s. Zombie movies are special because they can either be funny or scary, so it’s the perfect set up for a film like this and it looks like it is in the right hands.

As always, thanks for reading!
