What would we do without the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world? It’s really the perfect set-up, and one that never seems to grows stale. Insert hordes of flesh eating zombies and you’ve got a recipe for horror gold, which is exactly why we see so many stories tackle this genre. Staying alive is certainly no easy task when your entire day consists of not becoming a zombie’s next happy meal. But finding love in a world like this is perhaps just as difficult, which is exactly why one must hold on to it with all they’ve got. This is essentially the story we have here, and it offers a little bit of everything we want from our zombie films as it features some gnarly looking flesh-eaters, plenty of the red stuff and a big heart! Archives For Short Round
V/H/S 2 and Hobo with a Shotgun director Jason Eisener takes us on a minute-long trip into under water hell with his latest short film One Last Dive. With only one short minute to spare, Eisener’s film is a terrifying look at what a a search and rescue team find in the murky depths of a lake. What they find at the bottom is nothing short of terrifying. It may only be a minute long but it accomplishes exactly what it set out to do — and that is to make you think twice before you ever go swimming at night again!
Short Round: It can all end in a blink of an eye
Rob McLellan’s short film ABE is a brilliantly crafted bit of sci-fi that is every bit disturbing as it is beautiful. It’s such a unique premise that starts with a girl bound to a table with some medical tools sitting on a table next to her. When we meet the killer and he speaks for the first time with his terrifyingly calm voice it sends a shiver down your spine. ABE is an astonishing short film that crawls deep under your skin with its haunting dialogue from a lifeless killer. Continue Reading…
Short Round: Whatever you do, don’t move
The latest addition to the “Short Round” comes to us from director Anthony Melton who easily puts a lot of short films to shame with this beautifully shot short and its face splitting practical effects. Melton doesn’t waste any time here as he uses every second of its 14 minute run-time to bring us scare after scare. Major props to the team that designed the creature and did the special effects, the whole thing is absolutely brilliant and a ton of fun to watch. Don’t Move marks Melton’s first short film but something tells me we’ll be seeing his name popping up in the horror genre very often in the near future. Continue Reading…
Short Round: This elevator only goes down, way down
Paul Solet is best known for writing and directing Grace and has now released his short film Going Down for Black Box TV and stars Marc Senter and Dinora Walcott with music by Austin Wintory. It’s the perfect length for a short film coming in at just under 6 minutes — his latest story tells the tale of Gunther Cleary (Marc Senter) who thought he had everything planned out, that is until he steps foot in an elevator that shows him that life doesn’t always go the way you expect it. Short Round: Photography is a tough job these days
Today on the Short Round we’ve got a fantastic little short horror film written and directed by Stuart Stanton called Inside. The film was shot entirely on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera as RAW and colour graded using DaVInci Resolve and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
What differentiates between a bad short film and a good one is simply how that short amount of time is used to tell your story. Inside comes in at just under 7 minutes and holds your attention for each and every second. With almost no dialog, Inside is completely fueled by its wonderfully creepy score and great performance by Stephanie Danielides that will leave you guessing up until its final frame.
