Paul Hyett has a date with werewolves on a train in Howl!

This is going to be glorious.

There’s exactly two reasons why the horror world should be paying attention to Howl. The first one is obvious: It’s about werewolves. And the second? Well, that goes to Mr. Paul Hyett. You may not be familiar with the name but you’ve no doubt seen his work in dozens of films. Hyett is the terrifying mind behind the SFX on films like The Descent, Attack the Block, Doomsday and so much more. And that doesn’t even scratch the surface. He recently took his talents behind the camera of his feature film debut with a little film called The Seasoning House, which is a vicious in-your-face tale of revenge, proving that Hyett has a voice in the genre worth listening to.

Real evil lies inside the trailer for Amityville: The Awakening

A Maniac takes on the iconic haunted house.

When word of a new take on the Amityville franchise first broke we got the same ol’ reaction these franchises tend to get—leave it alone already!? I felt the same way, honestly, because this iconic series has been more bad than good over the years, and the last thing we needed was another mediocre take on the “true story”. Enter Maniac director Franck Khalfoun and you’ve got entirely different beast, however. His latest horror outing, the remake of  William Lustig’s 1980 cult slasher, proved that Khalfoun knows how to unravel a tale of suspense that is both bloody as hell and just as disturbing. Essentially, he’s the kind of director you want steering a franchise like this one. Now, we have a trailer for Amityville: The Awakening, giving us our very first look at what Khalfoun has in store. How does it look? I’ll get to that.

Review: Coherence masterfully distorts reality

I‘m still trying to wrap my head around James Ward Byrkit’s feature film debut Coherence, so forgive me if this review is a little all over the place. Byrkit somehow created a film of cosmic proportions without ever leaving the small setting of a dinner party, that in itself should be applauded. A simple set-up turns into a mind-bending nightmare as the film takes place on the night of an astronomical anomaly when eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality distorting events. And that’s putting it lightly. Trust me.

The Stand has its eyes on Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flagg

The Stand may have found its force of evil.

With a director finally set in place for the long awaited movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, we’re going to start seeing some big names getting thrown around to fill the shoes of the iconic characters found within the pages of King’s epic story. Back in June The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone spilled some details on the film, saying that, “We’re gonna do one three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board. Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognize and somebody you relate to. And it’s gonna be awesome.” Well, if Deadline has it right about who Warner Bros. is eyeing for the the part of Randall Flagg, then it looks like Boone wasn’t joking.

Which horror movie scared you the most as a kid?

We all have one, so which is yours?

It’s time to fess up! I was first introduced to the horror genre at a very early age with George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. Surprisingly, that movie didn’t scare me. It instead created this fascination for all things horror that would eventually become a huge part of my life. Now, that doesn’t mean they didn’t scare me. We all have that one horror movie that left us with our eyes open when the lights went out, so I’m curious to find out which film did that to you when you were just a kid?

Origin stories are becoming the go-to route when re-introducing old characters to the big screen as we’re starting to see it more and more these days. It’s not such a bad thing, really, when you look at the success of  A&E’s Bates Motel which managed to pull off a fantastic prequel series telling the untold story of Norman Bates. Now, it appears that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is going to try its hand at telling audiences the early years of one of horror’s most iconic psychopaths—Leatherface.

Review: At the Devil’s Door falls off its hinges

Nicholas McCarthy follows up The Pact with another bout with the supernatural in his second feature film At the Devil’s Door. McCarthy clearly knows what he’s doing when it comes to delivering the chills as The Pact was a smart and genuine slice of genre scares. So what happened with At the Devil’s Door? This was a frustrating little film from McCarthy simply because it starts out with such promise only to lose its way right when things start to get good. The film follows a real estate agent, Leigh, who has to sell a house with a sketchy past. After a run-in with a disturbed girl, she becomes entangled with a supernatural force that soon pulls her artist sister Vera into its web—and has sinister plans for both of them.

So what’s the deal with Evil Dead 2? Jane Levy weighs in!

Here’s a bit of news that isn’t really news on the sequel to Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead.

So what in the actual hell is going on with Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead sequel? The last we heard about it was back in May when Alvarez basically said that he’s waiting for the right idea before moving forward with an Evil Dead 2. That—to me anyway—is actually pretty good news. When an idea finally rolls around we’ll more than likely see an Evil Dead 2. At least that’s what we thought.

When it was announced that Oculus director Mike Flanagan was going to be steering the adaptation of Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game, the first question was: How? While I haven’t read the novel myself, I’m quite familiar the concern people have with translating King’s pages to the big screen. Those of you that are apprehensive about Flanagan’s approach to the adaptation might feel better knowing that he’s been mulling over the idea for the last ten years or so.  He himself even thought the movie was unfilmable, until recently that is. Unnerving trailer for Ivan Kavanagh’s The Canal

The trailer for Ivan Kavanagh’s psychological horror film will rattle your nerves.

It’s hard to place a finger on Kavanagh’s The Canal with just this trailer because it doesn’t offer much as far as the story goes. What it does do, however, is quickly peel back the layers of the film by only showing us its striking imagery that look like something pulled straight out of a nightmare. Without much dialog and an unsettling score pushing the trailer along, The Canal looks absolutely stunning as it teases a wicked trip into madness.

Extraterrestrial trailer does not arrive in peace

If you make it to the final seconds of this trailer your brain is never going to forgive you.

The cats behind Grave Encounters have been hard at work on Extraterrestrial, a pretty ridiculous looking cabin in the woods tale that sees a handful of friends find themselves on the wrong side of a pissed off alien’s probe.  Their latest indie effort is really putting an emphasis on this whole probing business as the film comes with the hashtag: Get Probed. Don’t worry, you’ll see why.

Universal’s The Mummy reboot is definitely not going to be a horror movie

Well, this is a bummer…

A few weeks ago Universal dropped some rather big news on the horror world when they announced that they are going to revamp their entire monster universe by weaving together new stories of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Mummy and so on into one existing world; kind of like what Marvel did with their comic book films. Sounds pretty cool, right? Except there’s a little problem with this whole thing. They’re going to kick the entire universe off with The Mummy—which has already been slated for a May 22, 2016 release—and it’s going to be spearheaded by Alex Kurtzman, who also happens to have a heavy hand in bringing the rest of these classic monsters back to the big screen.

Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead TV series will star Bruce Campbell!

It was only a couple of days ago when we learned that Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan were writing an Evil Dead TV series. At the time Raimi only said that Bruce Campbell was going to be “involved”, but we didn’t exactly know what that meant. Would Campbell be back to star in the iconic role of Ash?

Insane first Tusk trailer goes full walrus!

There should have been no doubt in anyone’s minds that Kevin Smith’s terrifying tale of transformation was going to be clownshit insane, so when you lay your eyes on the first trailer for Tusk don’t be surprised when you’re left speechless when all is said and done. The film, which was spawned by one of Smith’s SModcasts, is a Human Centipede-esque tale in which Michael Parks turns Justin Long into a walrus stitch by stitch—and it looks 100% insane!
