Charlotte’s Song trailer is no fairytale

What if The Little Mermaid was a horror flick?

Well, I can’t say I saw this coming. Just when you think you’ve seen all the genre has to offer, someone reimagines The Little Mermaid under a horrific light that echoes elements of Pan’s Labyrinth and Carnivale. That someone is director Nicholas Humphries, who spins a gritty tale set in the 1930s about a young girl who discovers that she, much like her mother before her, is a mermaid capable of terrible things. There’s actually a trailer that proves this movie exists and it’s surprisingly gorgeous, and just as terrifying.

Trailer for vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows

Some interviews with some vampires.

The vampire genre has been part of cinema for as long as film could run through a camera, so it’s kind of astonishing to see filmmakers continuing to push the boundaries, coming up with new ways to tell the age-old tale of bloodsuckers. Filmmakers  Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s new addition to the storied genre have taken a much different, lighter route to the oldest of monsters as their story follows a a documentary crew taking an inside look at the lives of three vampires who are hundreds of years old. It’s such a ridiculous setup that the only way you can really pull it off is to do it with comedy, and Clement and Waititi have done just that.

History repeats itself in The Town That Dreaded Sundown trailer

The remake that isn’t really a remake to Charles B. Pierce’s 1976 slasher gets a trailer.

Texerkana will be visited by a masked madman once again in the Alfonso Gomez-Rejon-directed slasher The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Here’s a little bit of a horror movie confession for you: I’ve actually never seen the original film. It’s one of those movies that hardly anyone talks about (unless they really know their shit), so for some reason The Town That Dreaded Sundown has always eluded me. I’ve only recently become aware of the film, which is surprising because not only does it sound like a genuinely creepy slasher, but it has one of the best movie titles ever. The Town That Dreaded Sundown. It’s so good!

Hell awaits the trailer for Asmodexia

A man and his granddaughter exorcise some demons.

Although Asmodexia has been quietly stirring up the genre for the last few months, it appears to be picking up some steam now that IFC Midnight has finally slated it with a release date. Hailing from Spain, Asmodexia marks the feature film debut from Marc Carrete, who has spun a unique looking tale of possession and the journey of those trying to rid their country of its evil. While I think the trailer could use some work, it does a good job of peeling back the layers of the story, showing us why Carrete’s feature debut is one worth keeping an eye on.

The guys who brought us Resolution have a twisted tale to tell…

Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead left quite an impression on the world of horror with their indie hit Resolution, and now they’re back with Spring, a romantic tale of horror that hides a monstrous secret. With its world premiere about to get underway at this year’s TIFF, we now have the first trailer for the duo’s sophomore effort and it looks fantastic.

Real evil lies inside the trailer for Amityville: The Awakening

A Maniac takes on the iconic haunted house.

When word of a new take on the Amityville franchise first broke we got the same ol’ reaction these franchises tend to get—leave it alone already!? I felt the same way, honestly, because this iconic series has been more bad than good over the years, and the last thing we needed was another mediocre take on the “true story”. Enter Maniac director Franck Khalfoun and you’ve got entirely different beast, however. His latest horror outing, the remake of  William Lustig’s 1980 cult slasher, proved that Khalfoun knows how to unravel a tale of suspense that is both bloody as hell and just as disturbing. Essentially, he’s the kind of director you want steering a franchise like this one. Now, we have a trailer for Amityville: The Awakening, giving us our very first look at what Khalfoun has in store. How does it look? I’ll get to that.

Terrifying new trailer for The Babadook brings a monster to life

Leave your lights on, folks!

Back in January we saw the very first trailer for Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook, which seemingly came out of nowhere and scared the crap out of everyone just before its screening at the Sundance Film Festival. Now, that little monster that lives inside a child’s storybook is back to haunt us once again as the film prepares for its UK premiere at Film4 FrightFest on August 23rd.

Eerie new trailer for The Canal will get into your head

The newest trailer for Ivan Kavanagh’s psychological creeper delivers the scares and a release date!

October 10th will be the day that Ivan Kavanagh’s eerie new horror film The Canal scares up VOD platforms, so on the heels of that news is an all new trailer for the film that delivers plenty of chills. Unlike the trailer we saw a few days ago, this one wastes no time as it dives straight into the film’s unsettling atmosphere as we watch a man slowly descend into madness.

Unnerving trailer for Ivan Kavanagh’s The Canal

The trailer for Ivan Kavanagh’s psychological horror film will rattle your nerves.

It’s hard to place a finger on Kavanagh’s The Canal with just this trailer because it doesn’t offer much as far as the story goes. What it does do, however, is quickly peel back the layers of the film by only showing us its striking imagery that look like something pulled straight out of a nightmare. Without much dialog and an unsettling score pushing the trailer along, The Canal looks absolutely stunning as it teases a wicked trip into madness.

Extraterrestrial trailer does not arrive in peace

If you make it to the final seconds of this trailer your brain is never going to forgive you.

The cats behind Grave Encounters have been hard at work on Extraterrestrial, a pretty ridiculous looking cabin in the woods tale that sees a handful of friends find themselves on the wrong side of a pissed off alien’s probe.  Their latest indie effort is really putting an emphasis on this whole probing business as the film comes with the hashtag: Get Probed. Don’t worry, you’ll see why.

There should have been no doubt in anyone’s minds that Kevin Smith’s terrifying tale of transformation was going to be clownshit insane, so when you lay your eyes on the first trailer for Tusk don’t be surprised when you’re left speechless when all is said and done. The film, which was spawned by one of Smith’s SModcasts, is a Human Centipede-esque tale in which Michael Parks turns Justin Long into a walrus stitch by stitch—and it looks 100% insane!

Full trailer for Honeymoon finds something sinister in the woods

Just yesterday we got our first glimpse at the awesome new poster for Leigh Janiak’s horror debut Honeymoon, and now we’ve got the full length trailer to lay our eyes on, offering a better look at Janiak’s atmospheric chiller. While the festival trailer left a lot of the film’s story up in the air, this one here focuses its attention on Bea, played by Rose Leslie, who finds something sinister in the woods.

First Grizzly trailer hunts Thomas Jane

David Hackl’s killer bear film now has a trailer under the name of Grizzly, which is actually the third title the film has settled on. At first it was known as Red Machine then it went to Endangered before finally landing on what we see here. Why they continue to avoid the original title of Red Machine blows my mind. There’s so much weight to that title because it was a reference to what the film was inspired by—Timothy Treadwell aka ‘Grizzly Man’ and his tragic end. He named all the bears he came across but one in particular he named ‘The Big Red machine’ and it was the only bear that truly scared him.

The Conjuring’s Annabelle is back with a chilling trailer!

On October 3rd that creepy doll from The Conjuring will leave her very own terrifying mark in theaters, and today we’ve been lucky enough to get a teaser trailer that explains just how Annabelle became possessed. It’s cool to see the backstory of the iconic doll and I like how they teased the film in the same fashion that The Conjuring did, almost like a short film. I was definitely on the fence with Annabelle once it was announced because it just came off like a rushed idea in order to cash in on the huge success of James Wan’s The Conjuring. Based on this teaser, however, it looks like they could have quite the hit on their hands. Time will tell!

Daniel Radcliffe walks deeper into the fire with the first Horns teaser!

All I can say about this right now is that it’s about damn time! Seriously, it’s been way too long for Alexandre Aja’s Horns to get a release date, much less a teaser trailer. And today we’ve got both! Apparently, Horns has been pegged for a Halloween release in the UK, and although they haven’t announced a U.S. release date just yet, I’d imagine it will be around the same time if not the same day. So that’s pretty awesome!

Terror gets domesticated in the trailer for Housebound

Gerard Johnstone’s festival favorite Housebound is about to leave its mark at the 18th annual Fantasia International Film Festival in just a few days, so to celebrate the occasion XLrator Media has finally released a trailer for their indie horror-comedy gem and it looks fantastic. The haunted house sub genre is more popular than ever right now thanks to movies like Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring, and while Housebound is cut from the same cloth as those films, it takes a much lighter and fun approach the whole possessed house thing. If the trailer is any indicator, I’d say that Housebound is going to have laughs and scares in equal measure. Should be a lot of fun!
