Being locked in a cellar with John Goodman isn’t such a bad thing, is it?

The Cellar is a very unique sounding slice of psychological horror, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, that takes place within the walls of an underground cellar. Its purpose? A chemical attack on the outside world has left it uninhabitable, leaving only the well-prepared alive. That in and of itself isn’t all that exciting, nor is it a unique premise, but there’s an interesting twist to the J.J. Abrams-produced thriller that really makes this one stand out.

The film will mostly take place in the underground cellar, revolving around a young woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who wakes up in it after a severe car accident. Although she fears that she has been abducted, her captor (John Goodmam), a doomsday prepper, tells her that he saved her life and that going outside means certain death. The big question is whether or not she’s supposed to believe him. As tensions rise, she decides she must escape regardless of what horrors await on the outside.

That premise alone has me tripping over what to believe, which speaks to how much potential The Cellar really has. It’s no doubt of the psychological horror variety as the film’s major strength is going to come down to one massive question—can we really trust Goodman’s character? Did he really save her or is this part of some sick and twisted little plan of his to keep her locked up? I must know! And to top it all off, the majority of the film is going to take place within the small, claustrophobic setting of a cellar, further adding to the paranoia.

John Gallagher Jr. has recently joined the cast, but there’s been no word on how his character will play into the story.

I saw the same movie but I can’t remember if it was Alfred Hitchcock or twighlight zone. I hope I spelt that right.
