The Stand may have found its force of evil.
With a director finally set in place for the long awaited movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, we’re going to start seeing some big names getting thrown around to fill the shoes of the iconic characters found within the pages of King’s epic story. Back in June The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone spilled some details on the film, saying that, “We’re gonna do one three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board. Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognize and somebody you relate to. And it’s gonna be awesome.” Well, if Deadline has it right about who Warner Bros. is eyeing for the the part of Randall Flagg, then it looks like Boone wasn’t joking.
That’s right, folks, according to the site, their source tells them that the studio has their heart set on getting Matthew McConaughey to take on the villainous role in The Stand as Randall Flagg. For those of you who aren’t familiar with King’s novel, Flagg is the personification of evil, a demonic figure who wreaks havoc after a plague kills most of the population. Flagg is pure evil and getting a talent like McConaughey to portray that evil on the big screen would be unforgettable.
While landing McConaughey is still far from a done deal, it’s easy to see why Warner Bros. wants him for the part. He recently won an Oscar for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club and now he’s heading into the weekend as a favorite to win an Emmy for HBO’s True Detective. The man is on a roll right now, and having just finished True Detective myself, a show that’s surrounded by evil, I feel like McConaughey would crush it as Randall Flag.
This is so incredible. If it happens, it will literally be one of the best casting decisions I’ve seen. Cannot wait.
I agree. Get him while he’s in his prime, that’s for sure!
This is a film that I’ve patiently waited for. I’m hopeful that they do the book justice.
Same here. It’s nice to see that it’s finally starting to take shape. I’m confident this will be a solid adaptation.
