Here’s a bit of news that isn’t really news on the sequel to Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead.
So what in the actual hell is going on with Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead sequel? The last we heard about it was back in May when Alvarez basically said that he’s waiting for the right idea before moving forward with an Evil Dead 2. That—to me anyway—is actually pretty good news. When an idea finally rolls around we’ll more than likely see an Evil Dead 2. At least that’s what we thought.
Jane Levy, however, simply doesn’t think it’s going to happen as she said in a recent interview that we shouldn’t be expecting an Evil Dead 2 anytime soon. Okay, so we pretty much knew that already, right? It’s what she said after that that kind of stung.
I don’t think they’re gonna make it. I mean, they’re always coming up with a new thing—now I hear they’re making a TV show. I was like, what? [Laughs] I think they just like exciting their fans and confusing them. I honestly don’t know, but it doesn’t seem like there’s going to be an Evil Dead 2 anytime soon. At least, not with me in it.
That’s kind of a big deal considering where things left off in the film and how they kinda sorta set her up to fill in the shoes of Ash. I’m all for waiting on the right idea for a new Evil Dead film, even if that means I have to wait. But continuing the story without the character of Mia would in a word, blow. As I said at the beginning, this isn’t really news because Levy, like us, really has no idea what’s going on with the sequel. So let’s just hope that if/when this thing happens that we’ll get to see more of Mia dismembering deadites because she was pretty damn good at it.
In the meantime, we have Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead TV series to look forward to! And who knows, maybe we’ll see Mia pop up in that somewhere.
Such a buzz kill! Hope shit gets straightened out because this was one I was extremely excited for. Idk how anyone
couldn’t be!
I wonder if the TV series is going to have an affect on the sequel? It’ll be interesting to see how this all pans out, that’s for sure!
Meh. I wasn’t that impressed with the first remake. Started out strong, but ended up being pretty uninspired towards the end…
I’m surprised you didn’t like it, that’s too bad. I really liked the Mia character and it was nice to see that they didn’t try to replicate Ash. Maybe the TV series will be more to your liking?
Well, like I said, started out strong, it just lost momentum, and got way to cliche 80’s slasher with the chainsaw and crowbar beating etc. I dunno. I also didn’t get how the resurrected “thing” was supposed to be so much scarier then what was already happening. But I am excited to see the series just because I love Bruce.
I just hope with the TV series that we aren’t sitting around waiting years to finally see it. Seeing Bruce back as Ash is going to be amazing, though. Can’t wait!
TV series is gonna struggle to be as brutal though. Hannibal is as dark as anywhere but even thats not a patch on what movies can show. I’d be mad keen for a sequel movie instead :)
A TV series definitely could struggle, but that all depends on which network it lands on. AMC gets away with some ridiculous shit on The Walking Dead so I could see that being a good home for it. Or even something like Netflix would be cool! I’d much rather see a movie as well, but this could certainly work out as well.
I’ll go see anything Evil Dead, but I do hope Mia returns in another movie.
As far as the show is concerned–and I may need to hand in my man card for this–I hope they focus on the gore and the horror, and leave tits/nudity/romance out of the equation. Evil Dead has never been about T&A, and I hope that translates to the small screen.
Who knows, maybe we’ll see her show up in the TV Show if she somehow doesn’t make it into Alvarez’s sequel. It all just depends on where the show ends up I guess, but with Raimi writing it I’m sure it’ll stick to the same style as the films.
