If you’re going to remake Predator, this is how you want to do it.
Shane Black, the screenwriter behind Lethal Weapon and writer/director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3, will be teaming up with Monster Squad director Fred Dekker on Fox’s remake of Predator, reports THR. And somehow it actually gets better as John Davis—who produced the original film—is on board to produce the remake as well. Shane Black is attached to direct the project and will write the initial treatment of the film before handing off scripting duties to Dekker. If you’re familiar at all with Shane Black then you’ll know that he brings with him a fantastic ability to create some kickass characters with a hard comedic edge to them. Teaming up with Dekker is just icing on the cake.
What I found to be the most interesting element to this whole thing is that Black was originally approached to help rewrite the draft for the original 1987 film, but he ultimately turned it down despite the studio’s greatest efforts. That didn’t stop him from taking a small role in the film, however, when the studio offered him to play the part of Hawkins.
Once he arrived on set, the producers were quick to ask him, “By the way, would you mind taking a look at the script?” Black replied, “I’m still not rewriting it.” It’s funny how he stuck to his guns despite the studio handing over a role to him (which he was awesome in). But now, 27 years later, Shane Black is steering the Predator remake for Fox in what I can only assume will be, if anything else, entertaining as hell.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, we’ll have to wait and see which direction the studio wants to take it—let’s hope they’re eyeing an R-rating.

I don’t know about this. The original is just fine; no remake needed.
The thing is, if a remake is going to happen, this is how you want it to go. It certainly has the talent, now it just needs a solid execution.

You know you’re getting old when they start remaking movies you didn’t think were old enough to need to be remade… Lol
Yea, no kidding! Good news is it turns out that it’s not actually a remake, but instead a sequel. I’m sure, however, it’s going to be remade eventually!
