Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson returns to the genre with one of the most anticipated horror films of the year, Deliver Us From Evil. I’ve been keeping a close eye on this one around these parts because Derrickson proved with Sinister that he knows how to scare an audience with slow, grueling tension and any horror film with his name on it is certainly worth paying attention to. The first trailer for the film has been released and it is far from disappointing as we get to see the devil do his dirty deeds.
The exorcism genre has been making a comeback over the years, but aside from James Wan’s The Conjuring, a truly haunting exorcism scene is hard to find. Derrickson looks to have raised the bar with this one, and if this trailer is any indicator, I’d say we are in store for one hell of a ride. Check out the trailer below!
Deliver Us from Evil is the story of a New York cop who meets a renegade priest when he is pulled into a case which the priest convinces him, against the officer’s religious beliefs, is demonic related. Together they work to solve the case and combat the paranormal forces working against them.
Deliver Us From Evil stars Eric Bana alongside Edgar Ramirez, Olivia Munn, Joel McHale, and Sean Harris

Scott Derrickson is steadily becoming one of my favorite horror directors.
He’s got such a good eye for the genre. Hopefully we continue to see more crazy stuff like this from him in the future!
Absolutely! It’s amazing to think he started with one of the Hellraiser DtV movies!
I know, right!? Gotta start somewhere.
Ha, yes! It’s inspiring.
Ooh, that looks like it’s got some great potential!! The tricky thing about exorcism films is there doesn’t seem to be a grey area for them. They’re either horrible (like The Devil Inside) or amazing (like, besides the obvious The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose). Eric Bana is usually good, though, so it’s got a good starting point.
Yea, for sure. And honestly, aside from the final scene in The Conjuring, it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen any truly scary exorcism scene. I certainly think Derrickson can deliver just that though. This looks great, hoping for the best!
Oh, that’s true! I’d forgotten about that when I commented, hehe. The Conjuring was indeed great. Horror movies in that class are few and far between, unfortunately. Hopefully there will be more. This years “coming soons” seem to be a lot of sword and magic fighting kinda stuff, which is nice, but Insidious and The Conjuring proved that there’s a big market for good horror (the important word here is good. We won’t accept more drivel like Insidious 2, James Wan!), so hopefully they’ll make more.
Boring.
This looks awesome!
