The Quiet Ones trailer awakens a terrifying force

Hammer Films will revisit the supernatural with their upcoming chiller The Quiet Ones and today the film’s first trailer has been released. This one recently landed on my “Most Anticipated” list because the set-up alone is worthy of a few chills to be sent down your spine. The film was inspired by “true” events in which a couple of scientists set out to create a poltergeist of their very own. And it worked… according to them. The film itself spins that story into a terrifying tale of awakening an unspeakable force. Insert a solid cast with the great Jared Harris leading the way and you’ve got a film certainly worth keeping an eye one.

There’s a lot to like about the first trailer as it does a good job of setting up the horrors that await. The subtle use of found-footage is a plus because even though found-footage is becoming a tired tactic in the horror genre, when used sparingly it can be quite an effective thrill. The only thing that I’m a little bit worried about after seeing the trailer is the use of CGI. It’s not bad by any means in the trailer, but it makes me wonder how much of the feature is going to be swallowed in it. We’ve seen plenty of promising horror flicks come and go that ended in disappointment simply because of an overuse of CGI. For now though, this one is shaping up quite nicely and should be one spooky little flick.

A university student (Sam Claflin of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and some classmates are recruited to carry out a private experiment — to create a poltergeist. Their subject: an alluring, but dangerously disturbed young woman (Olivia Cooke of Bates Motel). Their quest: to explore the dark energy that her damaged psyche might manifest. As the experiment unravels along with their sanity, the rogue PHD students are soon confronted with a terrifying reality: they have triggered an unspeakable force with a power beyond all explanation.

The Quiet Ones is directed by John Pogue from a screenplay by Craig Rosenberg and Oren Moverman and John Pogue. It stars Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, Erin Richards, Rory Fleck-Byrne and Olivia Cooke. Look to get haunted by The Quiet Ones on April 25th!

I enjoy life, living comes so naturally to me; its a precious gift like boobs… or rockets. I honestly believe that if you were ever attacked by a gorilla that you should just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of having each of your limbs ripped off.

Looks like a chilling watch, love the grainy old camera effect in the trailer.

Yeah, jittery camerawork and grainy footage always add a creepy dimension to a horror film.

Yea, exactly. As long as it isn’t overused then I’m all for that kind of stuff in horror flicks.

Totally agree, overusing it does detract from a film. I prefer it if it’s old fashioned photos, creepy heirlooms and past horror that add to the scare factor.

Don’t believe for a second that it was a true story, but it looks like quite a good film! Hope it really is.

The film is very loosely based on the “true” story that is almost certainly BS. Still though, a cool premise and it looks pretty solid.
