You’re going to want to leave the lights on after watching the first trailer for Jennifer Kent’s indie slice of horror, The Babadook. With its upcoming premiere at Sundance, the film’s first trailer has been released and it’s an absolute bone chiller. It’s definitely one of the creepiest trailers we’ve been treated to lately and sets up what looks like a pretty terrifying little flick. I love the fact that it focuses on just two characters, a mother and her son, who become tormented by an evil creature out of a child’s storybook; the result looks absolutely horrifying. Hopefully the early word out of Sundance will be just as good as the trailer!

Six years after the death of her husband, Amelia struggles to discipline her out of control 6-year-old Samuel – a son she finds difficult to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill tem both. When a disturbing storybook called “The Babadook” turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babdook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. And when Amelia begins to see glimpses of the creature herself, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may well be real.

The Babadook stars Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall, Hayley McElhinney, Barbara West and Ben Winspear. Check out the trailer below!

I enjoy life, living comes so naturally to me; its a precious gift like boobs… or rockets. I honestly believe that if you were ever attacked by a gorilla that you should just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of having each of your limbs ripped off.

Oh god. I was going to say how ridiculous this sounded, but then I decided to watch the trailer before saying anything, because you never know, right? Well holy shit. That literally made my skin crawl. I’m very sensitive to particular sounds, and that… well that did it *shudder* I hope it ends up being as creepy as the trailer!

I know, right? The title of the film can definitely make this one sound a little bit over the top. I think that’s why this one has managed to fly under the radar so easily. After this trailer though, it’s definitely going to start getting noticed. Glad you liked it. The sound she hears when under the sheet is worthy of a few chills!

Wow!! Terrible name, horrifying concept! I hope it holds up! Trailer didn’t show much, but on that upnote, created a ton of anticipation! Although i am typically leary of any modern horror with children in it, i am looking forward to this!
