You know shit has hit the fan once you start taking advice from your cat and dog. That or you’ve just done a mountain of cocain; either way, this is the problem that Ryan Reynolds’ Jerry Hickfang find himself in with Marjane Satrapi’s genre-bending flick The Voices after he accidentally kills his girlfriend.

The Voices was recently announced by to play as part of the out-of-competition section at the Sundance Film Festival in January and we’ve been treated to the film’s very first still. In it we see Reynolds talking to his evil cat while a severed head stares back at him from the coffee table. Reynolds is coming off quite the dud (I’m looking at you R.I.P.D.) so an indie dark-comedy like this one should be the perfect bounce-back film for him. Reynolds certainly has the acting chops to tackle any genre (just look at Buried), but he’s always had a special knack for the comedy side of things so I have high hopes for this one.

Here’s how it goes:

The Voices centers around Jerry Hickfang, a lovable but disturbed factory worker who yearns for attention from a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a sudden, murderous turn, Jerry’s evil talking cat and benevolent talking dog lead him down a fantastical path where he ultimately finds salvation.

Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton (below), Anna Kendrick and Jacki Weaver all star. Look for more soon, folks!

The above scene happens in my house all the time. Strange, I did not authorize a bio-pic.

I hope this is a big success for Ryan. He is a great actor and just needs the right script and director. He also seems like a really nice person.
