There are only two Planet of the Apes films that I actually like. The 1968 classic, starring Charlton Heston, and Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Wyatt elevated the franchise with Rise, which was essentially an oldschool B-movie with fantastic special effects. It’s pure entertainment, and I can’t wait to see how the story continues. After Wyatt dropped out of the directing gig for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the film picked up quite the surprising choice along the way—Let Me In‘s Matt Reeves. Seeing as how they went with a horror director, I’d expect this sequel to be much darker than its original counterpart.
Four new character posters have been released, each of them featuring an ape with war paint on their faces and they look cool as hell. Check them out below!
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species
Dawn stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Judy Greer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, Toby Kebbell, Enrique Murciano and Gary Oldman. Look for it in theaters on July 11, 2014!
Reblogged this on "You Jivin' Me, Turkey?" and commented:
Sweeeeet!!!
I’m sooooo ready for the saga to continue!!!
Same here, man! Loved Rise!
Oh, Totally!
I’ve got them all on the Blu-ray, and I’m so ready for the next installment! I’ll be hitting the theater for “Dawn…” fo sho!!!
Love it. Can’t wait for the sequel
Yea, same here! Hopefully Reeves can turn out another solid addition to the franchise.
Nice.
Save that shite 2001 remake, I heart this franchise, and was pleasantly surprised with RISE. I will say, though, BENEATH, for all its shortcomings, is solid when you watch it back-to-back with the original. You can’t beat the ending. Cheston, in his dying breath, grumbling “It’s doomsday,” pressing the big red button, then boom: planet earth was no more. Fuck. An. A.
It’s funny you mention that because that’s the only part I remember from that one. I’ll have to revisit it, that’s for sure! Rise was a surprise, hopefully Dawn does more of the same, and I’d like to see Reeves add a some horror to it as well.
I thought ‘Rise’ was too rated-G, The Apes revolt and all they do is turn over a few cars on the bridge. There was more violence in the original film than Rise. It was like when they had Terminator not shoot anyone so they could keep the PG rating. Just another opinion for ya’…
That’s a good point, and one of the unfortunate things about big-budget films these days. They try to make these flicks as violent as possible without actually looking violent, it’s pretty disappointing. It’ll be interesting to see what Matt Reeves does with Dawn and if he’ll try to bring in more horror elements. That being said, expect this one to be PG13, again.
