You never like to see a popular actor leave a project like Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak; especially when their name is Benedict Cumberbatch. First Emma Stone had to exit the film due to a conflict in her schedule now we see another one go — this time, however, it hurts much worse. As a huge fan of Cumberbatch I was pretty damn excited to see the actor take on a crazy horror flick with none other than Guillermo del Toro at the helm. Despite Cumberbatch leaving, which is no doubt some sad news, I’m positive that del Toro will find a fitting replacement – and most likely very soon.

With both Stone and now Cumberbatch out, here’s what the cast for Crimson Peak looks like: Charlie Hunnam, Mia Wasikowska (who is replacing Stone) and Jessica Chastain (below). That’s definitely still a solid enough cast but the real question now is who will del Toro choose to fill the shoes of Cumberbatch? I’m sure we’ll be finding out sooner rather than later as del Toro prepares to start production on the gothic romance ghost story early next year.

Still no official plot details have been announced but here’s what the man himself, del Toro, had to say on Crimson Peak:

“It’s the turn of the century. So it’s at the turn of the century and half of the movie takes place in America, and the other half takes place in a crumbling mansion in Cumbria. And basically it’s a ghost story and gothic romance, trying to subvert the rules of the usual gothic romance. It’s very much… the first half is a love story, then that love story turns darker. And it’s at the same time a ghost story. I’m working at this moment with Lucinda Clarkson who is a really great playwright from the UK. She has the proper degree of perversity and intelligence to turn it into something interesting to watch. It’s sort of a very compelling version of the classic gothic romance, where you have the spookiness and the windswept landscape that dooms the characters, you know?”

Such a shame to hear that about Cumberbatch, I am a big fan of both him and Stone!

Yea it’s disappointing for sure man. At the end of the day I think del Toro will land another solid actor though.

This is a major drag. Cumberbatch is one of the absolute best actors going around these days. Big fan of Chastain and Wasikowska as well, so would have been a cracking cast.

Also man, have you stopped getting new posts emailed to you these past couple of days? I haven’t received my daily email recently and it has not gone to spam either. Not sure what is going on.

They definitely lost a good one with Cumberbatch leaving so hopefully del Toro has a decent runner up! Are you not getting any emails from any of the blogs you follow or just mine? All seems to be working fine on my end.

Yeah I am not getting emails from anyone of the blogs I follow at all. Bit of a bummer – means I have to work a little harder to keep up to date with what everyone is doing.

Yea that’s no fun man. What you should do is just unfollow and refollow the blogs with the button at the top where it shows your stats and what not. Similar thing happened to me and that’s how I fixed it.
