Just last week on “The Missing Reel” it featured a first look at some images for Elijah Wood’s upcoming serial killer remake of Maniac and now we get our very first teaser and it’s pretty fantastic. Director Franck Khalfoun (P2) is the man behind the latest remake of William Lustig’s cult classic film of the same name.
The film was written by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, Mirrors, High Tension) and follows Elijah Wood’s character who plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past, when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.
This isn’t a complete trailer, it almost looks as if it was half finished when they uploaded it, but it still manages to show exactly the kind of style the film is going to have and it’s pretty surprising. It almost has an “art house” feel to it, much like Adam Green’s psychological horror film Spiral. Check out the trailer below.
I’d love to see what this will turn out like. A friend suggested the original to me but as much as I wanted to I just didn’t like it that much. It had a great story but I think it could have been much creepier.
