My 15 Most Anticipated Horror Films of 2013
With 2012 officially behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to what the new year has in store for us horror lovers. While 2012 had it’s good and bad; 2013 is shaping up to be an unforgettable year with everything from a from a few remakes of horror classics to Park Chan-wook’s first english language debut.
Under each plot synopsis I’ve added a link [more on the film] that you guys can click if you’d like to watch a trailer or find out more details on each of these films. Now let’s get to it. We’ve got vampires, demons, cannibals, zombies, an angry girl with telekinetic powers and so much more. So sit back, relax and join me on the list of my 15 most anticipated horror films of 2013.
#15 – World War Z
The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.
#14 – This Is the End
Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel star as themselves along with Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, and Craig Robinson in this end of the world comedy that finds all the actors hiding out withJames Franco in his apartment as the apocalypse decimates L.A. outside. Featuring cameos by Jason Segel and Emma Watson, the Sony Pictures pic features the directing debuts of Rogen and frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg.
#13 – Byzantium
Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
#12 – Frankenstein’s Army
Toward the end of World War II, Russian soldiers pushing into eastern Germany stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Victor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein’s work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades — a desperate Hitler’s last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.
#11 – Horns
The film follows Ig Perrish, the prime suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend. Hung-over from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and to exact revenge on her killer.
#10 – The Green Inferno
Drawing inspiration from Ruggero Deodato’s controversial Cannibal Holocaust comes Eli Roth’s return to horror with a film that follows student activists from New York City that travel to the remote jungles of Peru in order to stage a protest but instead encounter a tribe of cannibals.
#9 – The Conjuring
The film tells the horrifying tale of how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.
#8 – Mama
Guillermo del Toro presents Mama, a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed. When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.
#7 – The Lords of Salem
Heidi, a radio station DJ, receives a wooden box containing a record. Heidi listens and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of Salem’s violent past. Is Heidi going mad or are the Lords of Salem returning for revenge on modern day Salem?
#6 – You’re Next
When the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, the gang of mysterious killers soon learns that one of victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.
#5 – The World’s End
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
#4 – Carrie
Carrie White is a lonely and awkward teen who is constantly bullied at school by her peers, and beaten at home at the hands of her religious mother. But Carrie has a secret: She’s been blessed with the terrifying power of telekinesis; and when her peers decide to pull a prank on her at prom, they’ll soon learn a deadly lesson: If you play with fire, you get burned.

An everyday man has only five days and limited resources to discover why he was imprisoned in a nondescript room for 15 years without any explanation.

After India’s father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
#1 – Evil Dead
In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
